Does anyone know if they ever bump someone into the next higher scholarship level if they are really close and way above on the GPA and have otherwise great qualifications? Assuming not, but I thought I’d ask. Thanks!
I’m guessing no this year, since they don’t seem to be giving much weight to AP and honors classes. It doesn’t hurt to ask, though.
i think you can request to get into honors if not an auto admit. if your kid succeeds with this, s/he will get one stipend. Regarding your question, my best guess is no but it could be worth the time to appeal. the worst they can do is say no.
@CAMidwestMom please see this link. http://admissions.temple.edu/sites/admissions/files/uploads/010-1415_Scholarship-Info_FINAL-ADA_508.pdf
Here is my interpretation of it. While looking at test scores they have 2 methods. Cr + M or avg (CR+W) + M to qualify. Let me give example. Let’s say we are trying to qualify a student for presidential scholarship with Gpa requirement met but having following Sat scores. CR- 700. W- 750. M- 700. Student will fall short by 20 points for CR+M = 1400 as presidential qualifies at 1420. But with avg (CR +W) + M it will come to 725 + 700= 1425. So it will qualify. I hope it will help you if you already have Gpa for you to look at writing score and find average to see whether you qualify or not. Good Luck
@CAMidwestMom, I wish we could trade some points from our son’s SAT for some GPA points.
@Dadofhskid Thank you for this response. I had seen that and I still think, unfortunately, he will be 10 points under. He has never gotten a B, so his GPA is fine, but such is the downside of automatic awards and it’s ok. He has lots of great options and he will still get something from Temple. Hoping to hear any day now.
@mstomper LOL, we should write an appeal about a trade off. hahahahaha
We’re hoping our son can still get into the honors program; he doesn’t have the GPA but his SAT scores are way above the cutoff. I’ll just have to stay after him to do his part.
@mstomper I was wondering about that too, with the opposite scenario of course! Have to get the initial acceptance first though. Hoping to hear in the next week or two.
As I mentioned in another thread my son was well above the GPA for the full tuition Presidential scholarship but had a 1410 SAT score… 10 points under. We emailed admissions and they told us to fax a letter to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions. We did and he received a letter by mail 1 week later from said Director awarding him the higher scholarship. IT NEVER HURTS TO TRY! It took my son 10 minutes to write the appeal and me 3 minutes to fax it from work! Good luck to all… this is an incredible process and just think, I get to do it again next year with D1 who is a rising junior!!!
