2006 Transfer Rates

37.68% then. Ouch, just like NYU then.

thats pretty high imo..nothing like nyu

The applicant pool at NYU is also naturally much stronger. Fordham isn't hard to get into.

Does anyone know why the acceptance rate for transfers at Notre Dame is high? Does that mean a lot of freshman drop out after their first year? That really surprises me.

No. Notre Dame, like many other schools, probably chooses to increase its class size by a certain amount by adding transfer students.

But that doesn't make sense. I mean, don't they choose freshman according to how many dorm rooms they have available overall? Why would that many more dorm rooms be available the following year?

the amount of dorms rooms actually play a small role in determining the size of the student body. many schools do not guarantee housing, yet students still attend because they find places to live elsewhere. the number of professors, the different types of programs offered by the school, etc mainly determine how large the incoming class should be. over-admitting applicants simply wouldn't benefit the students of an elite-school education.

Oh, okay. I understand what criteria determines the size of the class, but I still don't understand why there are more spots for sophomores than Freshman? Unless there are more programs and classes available after freshman year? Forgive me for not "getting" it.:)

The simple answer is that universities value what transfers bring to the community. We are typically a very different group of people from freshmen applicants, and so, in a sense, we make the community more diverse.

i've been searching all over for these. thanks.

Some of the info. seems inaccurate such as Stanford...

What can you tell us about Stanford acceptance rates? Thanks.

That I remember it was 7.4percent rate... may be it went up! lol

This year Stanford accepted only 20/1400 applicants- less than 2%. In past years it has been around 5%.

Thanks, very useful.

Does anyone know if previously attending the university increases chances of transfer admission?

you mean re-enrollment? i don't understand...
unless you're talking about a pre-college high school summer program or something, i'm sure it would help. it helps more if you apply early though. i know that this method worked well with columbia applicants.

Yeah, re-enrollment. I attended NYU freshmen and sophomore year, transferred out and want to go back for senior year. My GPA isn't so great but I'm sure having been there before makes a difference, right??

yeah i guess. though im pretty sure it's a separate application you need to fill out (specifically for re-enrollment). its not the same process as transfer admission.

Wow 82% for Tulane? Must be because of the damage to New Orleans scaring people away.
