2008 Barrymore Awards

<p>On October 6, the 2008 Barrymore Awards program was held. For those not familiar with it, it is the preeminient theater awards program in the Philadelphia region established by The Theater Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. Over 125 professional theaters, theater companies, casting agencies, and area colleges and conservatories particpate in the Alliance and the Awards program is a celebration and recognition of area actors, directors, music directors, theater designers and theater techs in a program that can only be described as an elegant local version of the Tony’s that draws over a thousand performers and theater supporters.</p>

<p>Congratulations to Eric Ebbenga, MT Music Skills professor at UArts, on his receipt of a Barrymore Award for Oustanding Musical Direction for Assassins at the Arden Theater. It was a wonderful show and the recognition given to him is well deserved.</p>

<p>Four faculty members were award winners: Lee Ann Etzold - Best Supporting Actress, Scott Greer - Best Supporting Actor, Eric Ebbenga - Outstanding Music Direction and Richard St. Clair - Outstanding Costume Design. The award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical - 11th Hour's production of "The World Goes Round," with ensemble members Megan O'Brien, Billy Bustamente and Alex Keiper. Jen Childs, artistic director of 1812 Productions, with members of the cast of "Suburban Love Songs," was also recognized with an Outstanding Ensemble award. In addition, Linda Henderson, piano instructor for MT students in Music Skills lab, served as the pianist for the program.</p>
