2009-2010 Academic Calendar

The 2009-2010 academic calendar is now posted on USMMA's website

United States Merchant Marine Academy

Thursday, JULY 9 - Class of 2013 reports for Indoctrination

Also, FYI, Parent's Weekend for 2009 will be the weekend of Sept 18-20 with acceptance on the 19th. The original published date is incorrect, so mark your calendars and Candidate parents you may want to make your hotel reservations now before they are taken :)

Thank you for the heads up on Parents Weekend moving to September 18-20. I note the academic calendar for 09-10 which still has it listed as September 4-6. Before I adjust my travel plans, I just want to make sure 18-20 is the correct weekend. Can you elaborate on the source of this information?

WDNJ, the USMMA Parents Page posted the change of Plebe Acceptance Day to September 19 USMMA Parents Page.

Also Shirley Anthony, USMMA Parents Program Coordinator, sent out an electronic notice on Friday afternoon, February 20 noting the change of Parents Weekend to September 18-20, also pointing out that it was a change from the original schedule.

Yep WDNJ, that's the information I received. Shirley Anthony who is the Parent's Coordinator working at KP. She said to forward the information and that it is different from what is on the academic/reg. calendar.

I don’t like this new format for the schedule.

There is not enough information for me. I like knowing when he may have a free weekend (ie, no inspections) for a quick weekend home.

But new man in charge, new rules and calendars all around.

Just got another note from Mrs. Anthony regarding parent’s weekend:

“By the way, the new date picked for Parents Weekend/Acceptance Day falls during Rosh Hashanah so there might be a change. Perhaps it would be wise to hold that date in abeyance for now and I will get back to you when it is definite. It might stay the same but I don’t know as yet. Take care and I apologize for this conflict in dates.”

Also, it appears the “new” schedule format is just the academic calendar, not the regimental one. Hope they combine them again.

So…has anyone figured out when Parent’s Weekend is yet?

The USMMA parents’ page shows again 9/18 - 9/20

PARENTS WEEKEND IS SEPTEMBER 18 - 20, 2009
ACCEPTANCE DAY IS SEPTEMBER 19
THE FOOTBALL GAME WILL BE MARINERS VS SUNY MARITIME

I’m waiting on our local Parents’ Assoc. President to confirm this information.

It is confirmed for the weekend of 18-20. With the acceptance being on Saturday the 19th. Everything is in the planning stage, but be aware it will be a great weekend, so make your plans to attend now :D

I appreciate the efficiency of fellow KP parents in posting updates and changes to the academic and regimental calendars.

As anyone who has had the pleasure of traveling to Great Neck can verify, there are limited hotel accommodations within easy reach of the campus and they tend to book up quickly around Parents Weekend / Acceptance Day and graduation.

This will be the final Parents Weekend for my family as our midshipman will (hopefully) graduate in 2010, but it has always been worth the effort to attend. Your son or daughter will be glad to see you and the Academy makes a special effort to “put on the dog” for the families.

See you there !

The 2009-2010 academic calendar has been updated and now shows Parents’ weekend on Sep 18-20

I talked to the reservations manager at The Andrew in Great Neck a couple of days ago. She said graduation is the same time as the US Open. I don’t know if she was referring to this year or next.

This year…09 Graduation conflicts with the Golf US Open. UGH!

Just got this email regarding Parent’s Weekend:

The Parents Weekend date (originally September 4-6 then September 18-20) is being reconsidered. The following was posted this morning on the Parents Webpage:

The date for Parents Weekend is being reconsidered.
As soon as a definitive date is finalized, it will be posted.
Thank you so much for your patience in this matter.

Suzannegra, you beat me here

I just posted the same information on the other forum

[Parents Weekend/Acceptance Day 2009 - United States of America Service Academy Forums](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?p=43937#post43937)

Cheers!

Well, after much change, etc., I believe this is the final date for Parent’s Weekend 2009 –
I just received this from KP, and this date has Rear Admiral Worley’s blessing:

We are pleased to announce that the date for
Parents Weekend is officially
September 11 - 13, 2009.
Acceptance Day is September 12.
The Mariners will be playing against
Coast Guard for the Secretaries’ Cup.
It promises to be a very exciting event.

Suzanne,

I know you are really plugged-in. Any idea if a more detailed calendar will be provided? Our parent’s association chapter has new parents who are trying to make travel reservations for Parent’s Weekend and are uncertain about their Sunday flights. I’d like to be able to advise them.

Plan your Sunday flight later rather than earlier. The Plebes will have liberty until 1800, which means they should be back around 1630 (4:30 p.m.). The won’t want to go back early. We had to leave early, so our daughter stayed with her roommate’s family for the afternoon. We really wished we could have to stay later!

This is a new Sup so not sure what he will do, but in the past, liberty was always given later on Sunday afternoon than what was on the calendar. Better to make a latter reservation for flight than an earlier one. I’m going to be talking with Admin tomorrow afternoon perhaps I will get a better feel about the Sunday afternoon thing.

Tradition is if we beat CG liberty is almost a guarantee for later Sunday :)
