2009-2010 PSAT Commended Cutoff

Hello everyone. I am a junior in high school, and I just got my PSAT score for the 2009-2010 school year. I got a 197, which is the borderline score between 96th percentile and 95th percentile. (I know that a 196 is the 95th percentile b/c my friend has that score and percentile; therefore, a 197 is the borderline).

I have read everywhere, including Wikipedia's article for the PSAT. Concerning Commended Recognition, Wikipedia says that the cutoff is the 96th percentile. One thing that I am not sure about, though, is if the 96th percentile is included in the list of Commended students. Some people say that only a certain portion of the 96th percentile get chosen as commended, and some 96th percentile don't. Please help! I am confused, and I would like to know if my 197 would qualify for Commended.

Thanks!

It’s best to use your scores as predictors, because percentiles are rounded (e.g., 95.5 rounds to 96).

The cutoff would have to drop several points in order for 197 to be Commended.

Commeded this year is 201-203, not sure which. I got a 205…but i am still disappointed.

I think the commended cutoff was 201 this year. It may increase/decrease 1-2 points, but it is highly unlikely that 197 would qualify.

CollegeBoard has also begun sending letters out to students who will be either Commended or Semifinalists, saying that the distinction between the two will be announced in September, as always. The data from these letters will probably be sufficient to determine the cutoff, but you should hear soon either way.
