2010 AP United States History Discussion

Don’t forget the Populist Party! :D

Well I’m gunna go to sleep, good luck tomorrow everyone

Just remember that they ran William Jennings Bryan against McKinley in 96.

^^^^ (don’t know how many"^" and too lazy to
count now) Lincoln was Whig until Whig disapeared…

Whigs pretty much ended with the Kansas Nebraska Act. After all the bloodshed around the time period (john brown and all that good stuff) the abolitionist movement grew and people wanted a stronger platform when it came to slaver- birth of republican party

Can someone list and giv brief significance on all the acts used to curb monopolies and unfair businesses around the progressive era time period?

Feel free to fill them in.

Casablanca Conference -
Tehran Conference -
Yalta Conference -
Potsdam Conference -

Know the pneumonic CTYP to help you memorize the order.

Interstate Commerce Act: set up ICC
SATA: almost useless
Hepburn: strengthened SATA by saying that its provisions apply to a company even while the company is challenging it in court
CATA: stronger version of Sherman
FDA: set up the FDAdministration
FTA: set up Federal Trade Commission
Federal Reserve Act: set up the federal reserve system

Sherman Antitrust Act - trust busting was worried vaguely… not put into affect until Teddy
Interstate Commerce Commission - fair rates for everyone
Food and Drug Administration - name says it all :stuck_out_tongue:
Clayton Antitrust Act - outlawing harmful practices

Dixiecrat Party - (adding more) Was against Truman’s civil rights as someone said AND made of southerner’s for states rights (hence DIXIE the nickname for the south :P).

brief overview of labor please?

Knights of Labor
AFL
Closed shop
Wagner Connery
Taft Hartley
Mueller v Oregon

anything else you can think of

also, contrast DuBois with Washington

someone who has taken this test in a different time zone or something needs to give us some clues for the DBQ and FRQ

Can someone list the doctrine by Presidents?

Basically, DuBois was for COMPLETE equality right away while Washington was more for blacks having the opportunity to get ahead economically and social equality would follow.

Someone gave me this acronym for WEB - Want Equality (for) Blacks LOLL not TOO helpful but if you take it literally completely i guess it works.

I’m only doing it because I want to see how well I know it for myself
(and partly because I’m just an awesome human being)

Monroe: obvious
Roosevelt: big stick in protecting american interest
Truman: will lend aid to countries in need or in danger of falling to communism
Eisenhower: extended Truman Doctrine to Middle East
Nixon: U.S. will withdraw troops and estahblishments (part of detente)

there can’t be that many more

Does anyone know how the Amsco test in the back compares to the REAL AP? I did a lot better on some actual AP practice tests but I’d also seen a bunch of those questions before and I did well enough on Amsco to get a solid 5 with all 7’s on my essays but I still feel uncomfortable because someone else who hadn’t studied told me “The Amsco one is easy” >.<.

yea I want someone to track Native American, African American, and Hispanic social changes too

I heard that it is a bit easier than the real exam. but i guess you wont really know until tomorrow

How about Reagan and Bush doctrines?

Monroe Doctrine - Declared W. Hemisphere was not for Europe to colonize, enforced by British navy.
-Roosevelt Corollary - Declared US would intervene to make Latin American countries pay debts to Europe
-Lodge Corollary - Asian powers(Japan) are not allowed to colonize W. Hemisphere either

Truman Doctrine - US will aid any country fighting communism
Eisenhower Doctrine - Like Truman Doctrine except in Mid-East-After Suez Crisis
Nixon Doctrine - US will send money/supplies to help countries in Asia fight communism, but will not commit a great amount of ground forces. After Vietnam War.
