2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Congrats NeuroApp! I applied to that same program in October. I bet I am at the bottom of the pile ;)

Does anyone know whether they will tell you if you are rejected right away of if you just won’t hear anything in general? Because I would rather just know! Ugh, I hate this waiting!

Congrats, everyone on your acceptances!! The flurry of notifications from schools is making me incredibly impatient! I want to know, and I cannot concentrate on my final examinations…

Most programs give rejections at the same time as acceptances. You will know you are most likely rejected, however, if you do not receive an interview request from programs that use interviews in the admissions process.

File review begins today; we have close to 700 international applicants to review so we will not have any additional information for at least a month.

Today I called U Virginia to ask about my transcripts, which say “Not Received” on the website. They said they have them and not to worry.

I also called U Pittsburgh, who still have not received my GRE score report despite ETS sending it to them 3 times. They said they are having problems with the GRE score reports entering their system, and that they would look into it and get back to me.

Just in case anyone else is having those problems…

brains:
Public university, no publications. So yeah, nothing that special. Would rather not divulge the rest of my information. I got apps in fairly early and applied to a lot of places (I was worried about how recession would affect number of applicants and number students taken). That most likely explains my early offers.

wow, 700 international apps? that’s some rough competition…

I am having trouble with Baylor correcting the names of schools I have attended. They listed three schools, and none of them are the ones I have studied at. I contacted the person by e-mail like four times, and one time by phone (leaving a voice message), still no response (and no corrections). I am starting to get very worried, because my transcripts were delivered to BCM Grad School in Nov. 20th, and the deadline is getting close. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions??

Thanks, kryptonsa! Do you know if they send out interview requests in waves, or would they do it all at once?

yeah, neurobiology does interview, but unfortunately they only admit 2 int’l students/year because of the funding

applied to 18 schools and still havent heard a damn thing!

guess im screwed :(

edit: nevermind

You’re not screwed! It’s still very early in the decisions process. I haven’t heard back from anywhere either.

I disagree, actually – for programs that interview, if you’re accepted post-interview, you’ll almost always get a call two or three days later with your acceptance. You won’t generally be rejected until mid- to late March post-interview; not sure about those who aren’t interviewed.

xxxxxxx, I applied in October!!! My apps were fully completed by Nov 16, transcripts and all. The reason I ask your stats is because on last years forums, the strongest stats were often the people who also reported getting early calls. I am being patient though, there may be no method to the madness.

tor2010: The last two classes in UCSF Tetrad have both been 24 students. I believe they are aiming closer to 18-20 this year. I can’t speak for BMS.

Obviously more people than that are offered spots. If you get an interview, you have a greater than not chance of being offered a spot.

I wasn’t saying acceptances and rejections were announced right down to the same, exact day (they both are certainly are made in a different period from interview offers, though). I was just saying don’t expect a formal rejection at the moment they decide not to interview you, as I’ve heard that generally doesn’t happen.

So I guess that means there are two non-formal indications of a rejection, huh? 1) No interview offer and 2) no follow-up soon after being interviewed? Heh.

Got an interview invitation today from Yale!

Hehe, yeah, I think that’s where the rejection panic comes from- when you start to hear people post that they have interviews. You know they are calling someone, they are just not calling you :(
