Any responses, yet?

I know it's early, but I was just wondering if anyone has heard back on any of their applications for Fall 2006? Berkely, for example, says that responses could come back as early as mid-January . . . Thanks!

I've heard from six of the nine programs to which I applied. I'm in biology, though, so all of those six are interview invites rather than straight accept/rejects... but hopefully getting six interview invites is a good sign! (Heaven knows I'm going to be flying across the country enough times in the next two months.)

Hi guys,

Im also applying to molecular, cell bio programs and have heard from two. I have an interview at one (USNWR #9) and rejected from the other (USNWR #20)...still waiting on the rest...

Has anyone heard from MIT and/or Stanford yet?

It's "Berkeley." ;)

Haha! that's the same mistake I made on my Berkeley application, which is probably why I haven't heard from them yet (even though I did send a corrected copy) Oh well, I wasn't too keen on that school to begin with.

But anyhow, I just talked to one of my schools who's asked for an interview (U of Wash-Seattle) and it falls on the exact weekend as Stanford's. So now I have to spend 1-2 days at both places to just do interviews rather than get the full experience. Ugh! But I shouldn't complain. Anyhow, the sec at U Wash said they were running into this problem a lot because Stanford is the, get this: LAST TO SEND OUT INTERVIEW OFFERS! Can this be true? Any other bio people out there getting late offers? I guess its true because all the weekends are coming up in Feb so if I haven't heard by now its probably a done deal I'm not going. Anyways, if anybody gets another offer in a few days, please share!

I just heard from Harvard today (around 5 PM).

So if you haven't heard from the universities that you applied to, say for an interview, does that mean you have a pretty slim chance of getting in?

A lot of programs don't do any kind of interview round, and I believe the scheduling varies quite a bit by school and by program. It depends on what you applied for and where, but it's probably not time to start panicking just yet.

I applied to history programs. So far, the only response I have had was a professor at UC Santa Barbara who requested more information about my research interests and a copy of my undergrad thesis. I have no idea what that means. -sigh-

pinoyako, I'm thinking yea. From these boards I've learned of people who have gotten interviews at places I haven't heard from (one of the schools never even answered an email I sent about whether all my materials were received). Since the interview weekends are coming up, and you/they have to book the flight and figure out an itinerary and stuff, I'm thinking it's probably a done deal at this point. The only bright side is I haven't received any outright rejection letters yet, so I don't know if I'm on some sort of a waitlist...

goodnik : If I were you, I won't even sweat. The fact that they called you means that they're interested. The best of luck.

tattered: LOL...That's a good way at looking at it. I'm talking about the "outright rejection". Hope is within reach my dear friend. Regarding admission counselors (or whatever you call them) not sending/returning emails to confirm a complete application, I have been unfortunate enough to be blessed with those b!tches' presence. That lady from Stanford is a good example why this year is called the year of the fire b!tch...err..fire dog. She should do her freaking job.

The one from MIT is the best.

You are so right About MITb**t! I've been telling all my friends that I don't care what they decide about me b/c that lady was HORRIBLE! I had a simple question about letters of recs and she was really nasty. I figured that when someone calls the office, a sec basically "represents" a school so to speak so I'm not sure if its the air, or the school that got her that way. Either case, I wouldn't want to deal with HER for 4-6 years. ( but i sure hope she's not somebody on this board's mom =-) )

Has anyone applying to bioengineering programs at Berkeley, UCSD, or Georgia Tech heard back yet??

the first i heard from were U of chicago, cornell, stanford, U of washinton, caltech, and u of wisconsin (this is in chemistry) - they all replied during the last two weeks of Jan or first week of Feb -- visiting weekends for some of these schools are in Feb so of course they reply to their applicants sooner than those schools which have weekends only in march
ucsd, ucb, ucla, and northwestern seem to take a bit longer ...

it sucks that schools don't put up the dates for their visiting weekends on their websites - because that would give some indication as to when you'd expect to hear from them - acceptances take priority over rejections - and at least you wouldn't be stuck still expecting to hear something good from a school when their weekends have already started, but they just haven't mailed the rejections yet .... that period of suspence is even harder to take than a rejection
