Congrats CellBuff! That’s awesome!

@microphd,
I just got back from the BBSP weekend, and I didn’t hear anything until the Tuesday before I was supposed to head up. They are a little slow, but they should email you your itinerary and tell you who is picking you up from the airport, etc within the next couple of days. Great weekend though… they REALLY wine and dine you.

@GCAAAUAACGCG
oh awesome thanks for your response! i was getting worried, im flying on thursday so i guess tuesday’s cutting a little close but that’s ok. I’m really looking forward to going!
Did they happen to tell you when they would be letting you know about the decision post-interview? I just wanted to know how long the wait is to hear about a decision. thanks!

To anyone who interviewed at Michigan…what did they say the acceptance rate was and when did they say they would get back to the interviewees?

Thanks so much.

I’m pretty sure GSK is completely done. They only had the one interview weekend.

anyone who was at the Northwestern NUIN interview hear back from the prog yet?

NeuroApp:

Are they still inviting people for interviews or is that it for NUIN?

@MaceVindaloo

as far as I know the invites are over…they have 3 interview weekends, but I was under the impression that they were all booked-up…you can try emailing Jo (the prog admin) and asking her.

@bsn21

UMich PIBS? I know nothing about PIBS, but…

U Mich neuroscience already accepted everyone, I believe.

For those of you interested in Stanford Biosciences, this is from the Dean’s Newsletter March 16, 2009:
“Incoming Class
Stanford can boast having among the most outstanding graduate education programs in the biosciences in the nation – a testament to our outstanding faculty, resources and most importantly, the quality of our PhD students. This year we received 1422 applicants to our 13 Bioscience programs (some shared with H&S). On March 5-7th departments and interdisciplinary programs hosted 264 of these applicants for on-campus interviews and the opportunity to meet with faculty and students (eight who couldn’t attend interviewed at other times). Based on these applicants’ records, interviews and other relevant factors, offers have now been extended to approximately 164 of these applicants – with final decisions expected from the accepted students by April 15th. Without question, among our most important investments are our students, and I know that the entire basic science community is deeply committed to attracting the best and brightest students to Stanford – including attracting as diverse a student body as possible. I heard from many faculty leaders how pleased and impressed they were by the outstanding quality of this year’s applicants, and we all look forward to welcoming our incoming class of PhD students in this September. I also want to thank the Biosciences staff, the administrators of the individual graduate programs, and our current students for their enormous efforts in making this year’s prospective students campus interview program such a success.”

Note that individual divisions may have higher or lower admission rates.

To add more to acceptance rates, post-interview: UPenn Neuroscience told its first group of interviewees (invited on 12/23) that the program would accept 90% of them. I don’t know whether that will be the case with the second weekend, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.

Howdy, everyone! I heard about this site from my friend. There are so many posts!

I have been offered an interview with Stanford biosciences, and I was wondering if anyone else will be attending that. I knew no one from my friends who will be attending.

I was offered through Micro/Immu program. Is anyone else going to the interview through that program? I will be glad to meet other interviewees.

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate post-interview is for Wash U DBBS?

does anyone know the post-interview acceptance rate for UNC-BBSP?
thanks

(edit: clarification)

don’t know about all programs, but for WashU neuroscience, we were told ~2/3 are accepted.

also to add info about acceptances post-interview:
UTSW DBS: ~75-80%

UWash Neu+Beh: ~70%+

Pittsburgh CNUP/Neuro: “You’ll be accepted as long as you don’t give anyone the impression that you could be an axe murderer. We accepted almost everyone from last week.”

Johns Hopkins Neuro: They have ~25 PhD students per class. ~35 students were e-mailed in a mass mailing concerning activities on their one interview weekend. Therefore, I think that almost everyone will be accepted. BUT, this extrapolation doesn’t take into account # of international students in each class, I suppose.

Has anyone heard any news from Duke Molecular Genetics and Microbiology program?
And what about Northwestern IGP, has anyone heard from this program recently?

to add more acceptance rates:

Mt. Sinai - ~25% (of all interviewed, not per interview weekend)
Columbia - i think this differs by dept. a lot but around 2/3

Heard that Michigan PIBS had a 85% acceptance rate post-interview…

@NeuroApp, thanks for the info!

Anyone hear from BU Bioinformatics? Their Open House weekend is set for Feb 19-20 and (2) ppl on GradCafe have already been invited.

Brown neuroscience is likely to be close to 90% as well: seventeen applicants in broadcast email, with one interview weekend.
