the website says 2010 tuition rates wont be available until May...has there been any local news or rumors anywhere as to what the 2010 rates will be, especially what increase is expected for oos students. also, i think read somewhere that indiana budgets are 2 years? does that mean the rate would be good for the 1st 2 years and wouldnt go up until junior year?

I’m guessing the the OOS rates will go up 5-6% in each of the next two years. That is the proposed increase in this document.

Also, the OOS rates actually went up 10-11% each year I think for 2006-2007 and 2009-2008 and maybe for earlier years, too. Those increases got the OOS tuition up very quickly so that five-six percent is about all they can add each year to keep OOS tuition from getting ridiculously high.

Here is a recent article. No mention of tuition increases, so another indication that 5-6% OOS increase each year the next two years is a reasonable prediction.

parent56–The state budget is every other year. It was done last year, BUT the state decreased funds promised to all levels of education at the end of 2009 as state revenues were lower than expected. (like all states Indiana has experienced some losses–not as bad as some states, but worse than some.) I would not count on the rate being good for two years. The good news is that IU has one of the healthiest endowments around. It performed better than many Ivy endowments. I know I read last week that it was at or near the top of the Big Ten. (as a side note, last year the state didn’t get it’s budget completed in time which meant IU couldn’t do there budget. I think it was late July/early August before new tuition rates were announced)

Last year the first bill was due in mid-September rather than mid-August because the state was late to finalize their budget. That did make it hard to plan financially, but luckily the increase was much less than in our home state (California).

thanks, that means an increase on oos tuition of 1200- 1300 each year,… would r&B stay about the same or subject to same increase? still hoping he would get residence scholars to reduce those costs, no word yet.

An article ran in the IDS (student newspaper) a day or two ago about room and board increases for next year. Here’s the link:

so about 1600-1800 more next year and assume about same percentages for each successive year?
