lol funny. Does anyone actually read USNWR except for the college rankings? lol guess its their thing

i really think RESEARCH should be a component added into USNWR Research Universities rankings. I mean…what is the point of ranking RESEARCH universities if RESEARCH isn’t even a component?

On one of the law school discussion forums, an applicant went to Grand Central Station at midnight to get a copy of the Grad School edition and posted the rankings for everyone.

Once you’re below a certain tier, it’s hard to imagine how any of this makes much of a difference. Having a BBall team in the sweet 16 is probably a bigger boost to applications than making it into the T50 in US News and World Report.

It’s all for the $$$$

Having a faculty-oriented perspective, the university did not want its professors bogged down in remedial education, but rather wanted to attract serious, prepared students who could genuinely participate in the discovery of *new knowledge/I

Johns Hopkins has a higher PA score than Duke… Hopkins’ PA score was among the top 10 and was tied with Cornell, Chicago, and Columbia (3 C’s lol) with a 4.7 back when I applied to colleges in 2007.

Swish-
Yes, agreed, it is marketing, but it is tacky marketing. Not sure that is their goal, since enough people already have issue with the validity (for lack of a better word) of their ratings. Hard to believe they would want to further tarnish their image…

jym- you should be correct, but unfortunately people will be extremely flexible with their journalistic integrity when their boss tells them to do it b/c will make the company more $. Just look at the people on Fox News or the leaders of Lehman, Wachovia, Citi, Merril Lynch. Principles and common sense take a back seat to profit.

^^^^ Didn’t work too well for Lehman Bros, swish. We lost a bundle in that stock when it folded :(

As for advertising, sometimes negative attention is better than no attention at all. But IMO, the countdown clock on the USNews site is, as monstor said above, kinda obnoxious.

Is there any chance Stanford could break into the top three and move above Princeton based mainly on admit rate?

Or is having HYP at the top a requirement to give the rankings “credibility”?
