Last week he received another interview invitation, bringing the total to 6 now. Three more to go after the first of the year. I firmly believe that it was help from all of you that allowed him to apply wisely. Again, our sincere thanks!

Just wanted to say CONGRATS! to all those accepted!

On a personal note, i just finished my first semester of med school a couple of days ago and i feel pretty well about it. To be honest, I really missed my friends and my undergrad school during the first couple of months, but by november i was already feeling closer to a great new bunch of classmates.

Penn is a great place, but definitely intense. I also enrolled in one of the master programs and have been very busy but we have great support coming from all directions. I have also been doing a lot of clinical work with a surgeon and even got a friend to join us!. Students are friendly, cooperative and low keyed for the most part. The median for all exams has been between 88 - 91 (isn’t that sick??!!) but we have been graded Pass - Fail. However, that is changing this coming semester because we will be graded High Pass- Pass- Fail; then we go back to Pass- Fail during sophomore year. Everyone is very competitive, but not really cut throat, so we will see how that works.

Anyway, Merry Xmas and Happy New Year everyone!! And wish more good news to come on everyone’s way!!

Hi folks. Happy New Year!
I wanted to ask an interview question. My son interviewed recently and he said that one of the first questions that his primary interviewer asked him was where else “he’d been”. I know you need to be alert to respond to this direct questioning, but I was just wondering, why does it matter to them in their interviewing process? Will the answer given affect whether or not they accept the candidate? It seems pretty apparent that if the student is there for the interview, they are very interested in the school (one would hope!).

Thankfully the interviewer didn’t ask, “So, have you gotten any acceptances yet?”!! That would have been more awkward.
My son answered the question candidly, and a brief discussion ensued about the different locals. I hope that by knowing a student has interviewed at xyz schools, it doesn’t deter another school from accepting that student. It would seem that the student’s interest in the current school would be the most important answer to consider?

Any thoughts? Any similar experiences?

(*btw, he really liked this school and said the interview process went very well overall.)
