has anyone heard from UCSF BMS, Berkeley MCB or Weill Cornell BCMB?? I’m getting nervous.

Has anybody heard anything from U of Wisconsin- Madison Cancer biology or cell and molecular biology? Also, has anybody heard anything from Emory MMG?

No but not nervous yet!
Check the results in grad cafe from last year/this year and you will see that they sent out lots of notifications in mid-late January.

@ MolBiologist, I also applied to Emory MMG and haven’t heard anything yet, but they historically have sent out invites around the 2nd week in Jan.

hey everyone! I have a mix of a few questions…

-does anyone know if Chicago is done with invites? I know someone asked that recently but I don’t think there was an answer…sorry if I missed it somehow!

-@rabbitstew- when did you submit your application? Congrats!

-and in general-
What is the protocol on canceling interviews? I’m not really planning on doing this, but I’ve heard from four and waiting on five, and I feel like my winter is already so booked up! Do they charge you for the flight if they’ve already booked it? I was just wondering, as I’m trying to make everything work this semester…

I’m taking a tough course this semester and I’m nervous about missing so many, and I feel like eventually I might need to decline or cancel if it gets to be too much, especially if the interview isn’t for one of my top choices. I’m also worried about some possible conflicts if I happen to hear from any more (if they can’t be rescheduled).

sorry this was a little long- thanks everyone!

@ CompuBio

I know they have their interview weekend during the first week of Feb, with another one possibly in third week of Feb…

@ cbck98

Congrats on your interviews so far!
I know that you will be responsible for the airfare, if they have already booked a flight for you and you plan to cancel it…depending upon the university, may be they might charge you for the hotel as well…I think it totally depends upon the university!

If I were in your situation, I would’nt worry about the class too much, and just go ahead and accept the interview if it does not clash with any other interview…

Anyone heard anything from U of Pittsburgh- MCDB?

Has anyone heard back from Upenn CAMB (micro) yet?

@Immunol

I have not heard anything from UConn yet, I did received an email from Tricia Avolt saying that my application is complete and that it will be reviewed after December 15th. Note that i received that email on December 23rd.

Does anyone know if MCGD at Yale gives an interview? I heard it is just an acceptance followed by the recruiting weekend which is just for students to meet each other and faculty member.

I know Yale Immunobiology has interviews but not MCGD is that correct? I can not find any info on Yale BBS website about this?

@ rabbitstew

Congratulation to your BU interview.

I got a call from them too back in December, i was supposed to come for an interview on second week of February too. The lady told me someone will email all of us with a detail schedule for the interview, have you received anything yet from them?

I am excited about BU too

Has anyone applied to or heard from BU Bioinformaics?

@molbiologist

I do not think UW-Madison Cancer Bio has sent out any invites yet.

@ngsfan

I applied to BU Bioinformatics and have not heard anything from them yet.

Just got an interview invitation from NYU Sackler- molecular oncology. Dates are Feb 24/25

@cbck98
I turned it in around December 14th, I believe. A couple weeks early, for sure. If immuno2011 had the same deadline as micro (Jan. 1), they might have been looking through apps as they came in. Good luck! Are you also micro?

@immuno2011
Nope, just the phone call. He went a bit through the agenda - group meet and greet, dinner at the chair’s, etc. - and told me to book my own flight and they’ll reimburse instead of booking for us. I love that, by the way! BU’s great and their new BSL-4 is going to be amazing!

@cbck

I haven’t heard anything from UChicago (Division of Biological Sciences - Neuro/OBA).

Interviewing on a later weekend doesn’t affect your odds of getting in. It’s true that acceptances generally come in the week following an interview weekend, so early weekend candidates will get acceptances before a later weekend occurs, but programs plan for this and do not leave later weekends unaccounted for.

Actually, not all people who will be accepted hear directly after the weekend – each program presumably accepts less than half of their target acceptances after each weekend, then some number of candidates are placed on an unofficial waitlist.

I canceled three interviews simply by emailing the grad coordinator or whatever contact I had from the department and politely explaining that I would not be attending. I was not charged for airfare or any other expenses for any of these three interviews – my understanding is that most programs purchase refundable tickets for precisely this reason.

I would be very surprised if a program tried to charge a student for a ticket the program had purchased (although, of course, if you purchased the ticket, you should not expect to be reimbursed).

hi everyone,

it seems like a lot of people are concerned with the interview dates. I started a new thread here (carried over from the one done on GradCafe) that list the interview dates for certain programs. Please feel free to add (alphabetically) to the list for the benefit of everyone. Thanks, and good luck.
