2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

I just received invitation emails from Stanford Biosciences and MIT biology:)

Does anyone know how many they accept each year at Stanford Biosciences Mol.&Cellular Physiology?

@jennie - I applied to the cancer bio program, but haven’t back yet

does MIT bio send out interview invites in waves?

@jennie - i applied to the cancer bio program but haven’t heard back either.

i’m mildly disappointed i didn’t receive an email from MIT, guess i should be expecting the rejection email some time next week…

@jennie - I applied to the Stanford Dept. of Biology and haven’t heard back yet either

Got an email invite to Stanford Biology yesterday evening! They didn’t call, so I would just expect an email from them.

Interview invite via email for UPenn CAMB, Feb 3-5 interview. That makes two schools I’ve communicated with on this Saturday morning. Interview season must suck for their admin staff.

FYI, the administrator for Harvard BBS mentioned the other day that acceptance notifications will be done by phone and email this year. First time using email instead of Fedex.

This is slight off topic for interview dates, but concerning background does anyone here have industry experience or know how it affects your app?

Does anyone have any idea when UCSF TETRAD and CalTech biology invites might go out?

No, wondering the same thing; according to gradschool cafe results from last year, Tetrad ought to be the end of this week. Does anyone know if they have more than one interview weekend or if they require an in person visit? Do they offer phone interviews in lieu of in person visits?
My problem is a likely scheduling conflict.

does anyone know if all the invites for UCSF BMS have gone out?

bioblogger, see the [interview dates](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/1066650-all-biological-biomedical-sciences-interview-dates-2011-a.html) thread – the Tetrad weekends are Feb 3-5 and Feb 24-26.

It’s possible that in some cases a program might allow phone interviews, but those definitely don’t serve all the purposes of a typical interview weekend. You may need to prioritize your travel schedule and visit only the programs you’re most interested in attending.

Also, I’ve seen some programs allow you to schedule a personal interview date. You won’t have the same interview experience at the school where you don’t interview on the assigned date, but that would be a solution for interviewing at all the schools you want to visit, without having to worry about conflicts or flying somewhere faraway twice.

I think most of the UCSF BMS invites have gone out. The first interview weekend is on January 27th, so not sure if they have both filled out. Call and find out, that is the best way I found to feel assured if all invites are out. :)

Sigh… is it just me or do all of the schools have interviews the first weekend and last weekend of February?

Yay, UCSD Biosciences sent an e-mail and I got an interview! They have two weekends: one on the 4-5 of Feb and one 16-17. Gonna take the 2nd one. I’ve heard great things about the program and area, looking forward to it.

thought i would post my stats for future applicants:

3.7 / 4.2 undergrad / MA gpa from ivy (applied math major)
gre: 800Q 710V
4 years of research + 2 publications (first author)
applied to: MIT (eecs, biology, csbi), harvard (chem bio), stanford (biosciences)

only heard back from stanford so far with an interview invite for march 2-6. nothing else yet. does MIT send out invites in waves?

Got an interview invite today (yes… on a Sunday) from Emory GMB both by phone and then by a follow-up email. Main recruitment weekend is Thursday - Saturday February 10-12, they didn’t seem to offer any other dates…

@WindSlicer
