2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Literally JUST got an email invite to interview at Weill Cornell (Allied)! I’m super excited but also really sad because I already committed to an interview that same weekend at Hopkins. Do any of you know if Cornell schedules alternate weekends for those who can’t make their set recruitment weekend? Any advice?

@kp12746 same here! Got an invite for Weill-Cornell Allied. I was quite pleasantly surprised to get an interview invite at 1:15 in the morning! :slight_smile: Didn’t sound like there was another recruitment weekend, but wouldn’t hurt to call and ask! congrats on the invite!

Just got an invite for Cornell ALLIED too! I know everyone has been asking so dates are Feb 15th to the 17th!

I’m so excited I was jumping up and down like a crazy person!!!

Good luck all!

Would appreciate some advice…

I have a conflict with some interview dates. My options are either to cancel an interview for a school I’m fairly interested in, or take a later interview at a school I’m quite interested in so I can fit in an interview for another school I’m quite interested in. Does anyone know if asking to change interview times or taking a later interview has negative consequences or is this just all part of the craziness of interviews that schools generally understand?

got my Cornell ALLIED invite as welll!!! It was sent at 12:45 am so some person had a late night/early morning. A little relieved I didn’t see it until this morning because I definitely would not have been able to fall asleep after reading it and would be even more tired at work than I already am. @HB1986 and @biology123 see you both there!!! I am sooooooooo excited, definitely my #1 school!!!

Along the same lines as DeisGrad, is it bad form to cancel an interview that you’ve already committed to? I accepted an interview at UC Irvine, but received a UCSD interview over the weekend that would be on the same days. What would be the best way to go about canceling? Just email and apologize profusely?

Also got interviews from Cal’s MCB and Stanford’s Biology programs, so it was a pretty exciting weekend.

Concerning UCI and UCSD, if you wanted to attend both you could try to ask for that. I know that a post-doc here split his time between two nearby schools one weekend. I’m not sure how that affects how schools look at you though. You could also ask for one of those unconventional interviews or another interview date for the conflicting school?

For cancellations, as always, let them know as soon as possible, thank them for the opportunity and just be kind and sincere. I think job-interview cancellation advice I’ve read says to try to leave the door open too, but I’m not sure how that translates.

Congratulations on your invites! I received my Weill Cornell interview invite last week too, and I wanted to ask you guys to which one of their programs you applied to? And if it’s not too rude to ask, do you mind sharing the reasons why you like their program so much?

I’m an international applicant in Germany, and I applied to the Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis Program. It’s just that I thought you all seemed pretty enthusiastic, and I was wondering what your own specific reasons are =)

I got a call this morning from Tufts ISP (let it go to voicemail since I didn’t know the number and I was half asleep…oops.) I think it was for the weekend of Feb 18th…I’m starting to get some conflicts, too, so I might be in the same boat as the last few people who have posted.

SIlvercrescent, I was wondering the same thing. I know that Weill is in a nice part of Manhattan and that the hospital has great facilities.

@Diego: My specialization is in Cell & Developmental Biology for UCSD

I also got an e-mail this morning at 2am from Berkeley for Molecular and Cell Biology saying I got an interview! I’ll be going on the last weekend in Feb. Gonna be flying to the west coast a lot it seems…

@cbck98, are you going to give Tufts ISP a call back since they left you a VM? I received a call from them this morning also and let it go to VM since I was in lab. I don’t know if I should call them back, but then again, they said they’ll e-mail us…

got and email invite from Berkeley MCB! (apparently they tried to call without luck)

Applied: UCSF Tetrad, Stanford Biosciences, UCSD Biology, Scripps Biology (fingers crossed)
Interview: Berkeley

@eyesonly6587, I don’t think I will call back as long as the email comes in a few days. Mine said to call if I had any questions, so I’ll probably wait.

Congrats!

@eyesonly6587 & cbck98

I wouldn’t bother trying to call back Tufts, the number that called you probably appeared as 617-636-7000, which is just the main Tufts number, not the actual phone number for the office of the person who called you (probably prof. Jackson, I can see him in his office making calls haha) You’ll get the email in a few days and a snail mail letter in a week or 2. Congrats!

I’m so restless waiting for interview invitations. I have an interview for UCI neuro, woo hoo.

Still waiting on:

UCLA (MCIP)
UCSD (BMS)
UCSD(Neuro)
UCSF (BMS)

Has anyone heard from UCSD Neuro yet?

@ignignokt6

Professor Jackson sounds about right. So I guess I’ll just sit tight and wait for their email. Thanks!

On another note, has anybody hear from Duke’s Molecular Cancer Biology program yet? =/

Has anyone hear from Stanford Bioscience (Neuro) today?

@cellculture

I’m desperately waiting to hear from them too!
