Welcome to new members of the Trojan family. How did move-in go?

Move In at Parkside was very well organized. I thought D brought too much stuff, but it’s all neatly put away. There were many helpers available and everyone was very welcoming.

We went back today to drop off her bike and take her to lunch. It’s easier now that I know she is settled and making friends.

President Nikias and his wife welcomed new students as they visited each dorm.

Glad to hear it Mom2M. Both my S’s lived in Parkside freshman year. The weather is beautiful today, but when September gets really hot (Sept 27th is always at/near the hottest day on record), Parksiders really enjoy their A/C! Soph S2 moved into his apartment and is happy with the close location and having a kitchen. Things really become low-stress after that 1st year, when everyone can look forward to returning to friends and favorite activities.

Move in was so much smoother than we expected! Being East Coasters we got there on Monday-fight arrived early, so we did the Bed Bath and Beyond run that afternoon. Tuesday we were walking past DS’s dorm and noted people moving in! We went up to the desk and asked if it was possible to move in early, and for $75 we were able to get the key- and had the whole place to ourselves: no crowded stairs, no worrying about spreading out in the hall or the room as we unpacked, and even a loaned screw driver from a passing maintenance worker! By evening he was in, unpacked and ready to go. He slept in the hotel with us that night as the dorm was empty. Wednesday, normal move in day, we arrived in time to help roomie move in! It was SOOOO smooth. We left him happy and meeting up with friends that day to go the the SCA meeting for parents, and returned in the next morning for a great convocation and one last hug goodbye at the end. Couldn’t have gone better! I’d love to hear everyone else’s stories.

Very smooth at Marks Hall. Pulled off the freeway about 8:20 We were unloading by 8:35. Very helpful and friendy atmosphere by all parties. One concern: room was very hot even with a fan. I lived in LA in the past for many years. I do not remember it being so hot. Never had air conditioning.

Came back the next day for convocation and breakfast. Took express bus from Huntington beach got let off right by gate2. Took the train back. Got to love the new expo line.

On Monday, it was hot in Birnkrant…

Overall, it thought move-in went smoothly - lines weren’t too long.

It was surreal watching my son check-in and handling the details of checking in himself!

Move In for us went great as well, but had to go purchase another fan for the hot room too! Second night (Thurs) S slept great. We actually had a delay due to the need to buy a keyboard off craigslist once we arrived and so didn’t start move-in until 1pm on Wed. Roommate hadn’t arrived yet either so easy to move in. Roommate arrived as we were finishing up and we were able to visit for a bit. Very nice family. Saw son after convocation and once more later Thurs evening dropping off the keyboard stand and a few CVS items. Received one text since then that all is going well. Very impressed with how well run the school is!

So much easier the second time around! We were unloaded and in her room in Parkside by 8:30 Wed. morning. None of her suitemates were there until several hours later. Around 1PM as I walked from the Radisson to SCA for a parent gathering I passed the line of cars snaking its way from Gate 2 to Pardee, and it brought back not so fond memories of older daughter’s move in 2007. I was hot, sweaty and exhausted by the time we were done. This time I didn’t break a sweat. It pays to get there early, not that I will ever have to do it again haha!

cdmn, welcome back as another 2-timer parent. I didn’t realize your D2 was in SCA. Congratulations. Sorry to say, Squiggles and DadinNeb, but we are still having very hot weather in L.A. but it does cool down at night.

Hope everyone’s kids had a good first week. Stories?
