Some schools do this purposefully, precisely so students don’t have to worry about being “prepared” for each faculty member.

My opinion is that this is THE best way to go about it. What’s the point of knowing all the nitty-gritty of a professor’s research when they’re going to spend most of the interview telling you about it anyway? If you’ve stated interest in the professor, then yes, you should know what his/her general field is. However, selecting interviewees just because they know all the details of someone ELSE’S research is going to make for a very shoddy criterion, so I think all the over-familiarization people seem to be doing is unnecessary.

I didn’t read a single paper (no exaggeration) in preparation for interviews, and I was accepted everywhere.

Has Weill Cornell’s Allied Programs or Columbia’s P&S Integrated Program in CMB sent invites yet? I’m starting to get nervous since I’ve only heard from 3/10 schools (Stanford-interview, UCI CMB-interview, UW-MCB-reject).

I’m also going to assume I was rejected from UCLA ACCESS since it seems they are done sending out invites.

Does anyone know if you haven’t heard from Harvard BBS yet if that means you’re most likeley not getting an interview? It seems like a lot of people have already recieved invites by email…

@jayeyesee Can you confirm that UCLA is done sending out interviews? I work at UCLA, and some of the grad students were telling me they didn’t get invites until early February. It may have changed over the past few years though

@jayeyesee, I got an invite from Columbia Integrated program in CMB. I got it in like mid-December and their interview is next week. 99% sure they’re done sending invites for that weekend, but I don’t know if they have any later interview dates.

@those that did not get Harvard BBS: same boat - I’m going to assume if we don’t hear tomorrow (as perhaps they started emailing out notices late today), then yes - we are the rejected.

That’s what Yale calls it too, don’t think there is a difference though.

Did other Stanford invitees get a call from someone they listed in their SOP?

Also, I have gotten invites to 7/8 of the schools I’ve applied too…the school I haven’t heard from is the one I’m currently going to (UCSD) is this because I can interview with them at any time? Or do they just dislike me x).

Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I was just assuming they were done since they sent out invitations in December and again early this month… Didn’t think they were gonna do a third round of invites but looking at the interview dates now… wouldn’t be surprised if another round went out. And yeah, I just saw that last year on gradcafe people got interview invites in late January (although last year ACCESS had some serious technical issues that delayed the admissions process). Would be thrilled if I got an invite.

@greenertea

Thanks! I don’t think they have another interview date so I’m gonna assume the worst. :(

Doesn’t seem like Weill Cornell’s Allied Programs have started sending invites yet… And someone said NYU Sackler only got through 40% of their apps (shocking considering they had an optional reduced fee early app deadline of November 15). That’s what I’ll hold onto for the NY schools lol.

Pretty general email, but it had my name on it.

And stats:

UC Berkeley, 3.8 GPA
GRE: 170 Verbal (99th), 167 Quant, 5.5 Writing
Biochem GRE: 690 (95th)
2 years of solid research experience, but no papers yet. Will be first author when I publish. 2 great recommendations from research advisors, 1 decent one from professor/grad student.

@GradCancerBio, I haven’t had a rejection or interview from UCSF BMS either. I tried to send them an updated transcript last week but they said that applicants should receive a final decision in 1-2 weeks.
