2012 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Just for everyone who is wondering about UT Austin, I emailed them and they are all done sending out interviews…shucks :(

@greenertea wow congrats!!! Did you even have to interview with them? Haha

@frzb15

I think everyone technically applies through the “open program” at NYU Sackler. For my potential training program of interest, I chose Cellular and Molecular Biology.

U. Alabama immunology invite.

@Virology101, Thanks! I interviewed last week.

Just got an invite for Scripps, Bioloy but I think I’m going to turn it down. Hope it helps someone out on the forum!

I saw several people with backpacks or messenger bags on a recent interview. No one cares.

@greenertea thank you! That will possibly help me. Thank you for cheering me up  Scripps is in my top

@greenertea why do you like cornell and columbia over scripps??

so far heard from 7 out of 12 applied, 6 interviews (attending 5), 1 rejection
Harvard BBS interview
Harvard MCB interview
MIT BIO interview
MIT BioE interview
Yale BBS MCGD invited but turned down invitation due to conflict with Harvard
UChicago BSD interview
UC-Berkeley/UCSF BioE rejected
haven’t heard from following
Stanford BioE
UC-San Diego BMS
UC-San Diego BioE
UW (Seattle) BioE
UPenn BioE

@looong,

impressive interview list! I called UCSD BMS and they were still going thru apps yesterday, and I heard back today about an interview. I think they’re almost filled up for the second and last interview weekend (Feb 23-26th). But you probably won’t lose much sleep over this one, considering your interview list!

I’m currently at Stanford, and I THINK my PI said BioE has been all sent out. They could be one of the last departments, but if you haven’t gotten an email by now, it may not what you hoped for

I have a question for those of you who have already interviewed… The impression I’ve gotten from you all is that a suit (pants and jacket) is overkill for the interviews, whereas all my coworkers (already have PhDs) told me to wear a full suit. Has anyone had an interview where a full suit was appropriate?

Also, does anyone know ANYTHING about Rockefeller? The waiting is killing me! I’d rather just know I’m rejected than continue to wait another month.

There was no one in a full suit at my first interview (which was 29 people). Two guys were wearing blazers and ties, and to me they looked out of place/too formal. This was for a Biology program. Just wear nice pants and a nice button-down shirt; that’s what the majority will be wearing.

BU undergrad B.A. In Biochem andMolecular Bio (2007)
4 1/2 years at MGH/HMS Neurology Dept as Senior Research Technologist.

Interviews for:

UMass Medical 2/2-2/4 (Basic Biomedical Science)
Tufts Sackler 2/17 (Neuroscience)
BU Charles River Campus 2/26-2/27 (MCBB)

Just waiting on BUMedical GPN. Has anybody heard from BUMed GPN? I know the interviews are later than other schools (3/4-3/6)

-Jon

uh oh! there are inconsistencies within the data!!!

Does anyone know if we should expect any more interview invites from Mt Sinai? I e-mailed the program director…he said he has no clue and that the grad school is in charge with that…I e-mailed the grad school and never got a response…and I don’t see a phone# anywhere to call…so annoying to be in the dark like that…

My interests span biology and bioengineering, hence the applications to both. Trolls don’t usually get to 275 posts over like two years of posting :).

@neurogirl4- I would suggest emailing the program admin head Lily Recanati lily.recanati@mssm.edu . Emailing the grad school, I believe it would be forwarded to her still emailing directly may help. She may respond, but they are in the middle of giving interviews so if there is a delay don’t despair.

Thanks a lot nrds35! I just e-mailed her.

Thank god. The data is consistent after all. I panicked for a second there.

Nerves are a bit frayed I suspect… the abyss of a quiet weekend awaits :-(
