2013-2014 Applicants and their parents.....

Congrtulations!

Finally, my son’s committee packet got uploaded today! They got around to his packet 40 days after his advisor told him that his letter was already written! I guess, it could have been worse  AMCAS hasn’t acknowledged the letters yet. Assuming they do that tomorrow, he should be complete at every school sometime next week. Here is hoping for more interview love for him.

Congrats, Pinkstufzz! Great news!

Congrats Pinkstufzz!

Goodluck to Kal’s S.

Congrats to those with good news and Best Wishes for everyone waiting more more news.

I now have 8 IIs and I really don’t know if I can fit many more into my schedule this Fall. :frowning: Most of them are 2-3 days each so that’s a lot of missed classes. Decisions, decisions

Plumazul, D is in a similar predicament, but its a good place to be. It’s better than the alternative. She did receive her first rejection today. Ouch! She got another II today so it took away some of the sting. You win some; you lose some.

^Look at the MDApplicants profile ‘eleveneleven’. This guy is the most prolific gatherer of interview invitations in this cycle so far - 15 of them! He doesn’t seem to slow down yet. :D

One of the kids I met at my school’s 2nd look applied to 18 schools, had 16 interviews and 14 acceptances. He was a white dude from Lake Forest college (which I’d never even heard of and at first assumed he said Wake Forest) - obviously we didn’t talk about his stats/application or anything like that but kid must have been a MONSTER.

kal123…Wow! I just looked up his profile. He’s now accrued 16 II! I can’t believe he applied to 34 schools! Dang that’s a lot of essays to write! With a 39 MCAT and 3.98 GPA, he’s sure to do remarkably well.

Why does he list his application cycle at 6/10/12?? Is he a re-applicant this year?

But seems either insecure or out looking for trophies. With those stats why apply to so many schools?

I think he is a California resident

D got her second II yesterday and again is able to schedule it before classes start!

I don’t see how eleveneleven could possibly go to so many interviews and keep up with class work.

Congratulations anew to TatinG’s D, Pinkstuffz, plumazul, and kal123’s S. Keep it coming!

On a linguistic note, y’all is a lot easier on the ear than the “youse” I grew up hearing.

LOL, UrbanGardner! That reminds me of the scene in My Cousin Vinny: “The two youts…” “The two what?” :D

texapg, This is because a lot of II may not be translated to many acceptances unless the applicant has a monster EC. DS knew one kid (from California!) who was one year before him and had a stats which are better than eleveneleven. He interviewed everywhere and in the end he only scored exactly one acceptance. Maybe he did not have a monster EC. It is likely that he mostly applied to the top schools on both coasts. (Maybe not good at interviewing as well because I heard he’s mostly a “academic only” kid who lacks development in other dimensions.

I think BDM once said it may be safe if you go to about 10 interviews if you do not have a state school which may give their in-staters a huge preference.

I also learned from SDN a few years ago that a kid from Baylor U. with a 4.0 and 40+ MCAT could not get into any top school in NE in metropolitan area. He is a white dude as well. Stats are just a qualifier for getting IIs mostly when you are talking about these schools.

He did get into two top ones in midwest, that “number driven” school and Chicago, I think. He got so frustrated with one Columbia which wait-listed him but rolled the carpet for another 32 4.0 kid from his own state that he posted on SDN that he’s not a waitlist guy who’s begging for the admission and decided to send “no, thanks” email to that med school.

mcat2- I think California kids have it rough. They seem to have 2-3 times as many qualified kids as there are in state seats.

Why was it important for this Baylor kid to go to a top school? I would assume Baylor college would have rolled the carpet out with his stats.

baylor probably rolled out the carpet for him and then he shat on it (had a horrible interview)

In my daughters case, she wanted to make sure that she was accepted “somewhere” and would not have to be a re applicant. She applied to 32, got 23 II, went to 13 and received 9 acceptances. It wasn’t for trophies or insecurity, just making sure that she maximized her odds for choices.
