2013-2014 Applicants and their parents.....

Thanks texaspg! Hope you caught the Bama vs. aTm game. That was a classic! That Manziel-Evans connection is going to cause a lot of problems to a lot of teams this year.

Pritzker just told my son “Your application has been placed on hold for further review later in the application process” :frowning: Apparently, this is what they call as “waitlist for interview”. They want him to stay in touch with them with updates. He likes Pritzker and says he is going to give them updates.

A little disappointing, but he can’t have them all break his way. On the positive side, he has 6 interviews so far from very good schools.

kal - I saw most of the game and I was pretty disappointed! I am also surprised by how easily Bama can open up their attack they are required to. CBS supposedly had its highest rating since 1990 and A&M is still in top 10. Looks like Bama will have an easy rest of the year dealing with a few patsies. :p

I guess holding for an interview is a bit better than what Pritzker does to most applicants - take their money and wave goodbye in a few hours.

Six IIs, good news so far. We’ll be rooting for you kal123!

First interview this morning and I’m up so early!

Good luck, Pinkstuffz, and congratulations to all those with recent IIs—our little group is doing very well. DS has now completed about half of his currently-scheduled interviews, and has racked up more miles in the last month than the rest of the family has in a year. One of his MWF profs deducts points for each absence (only half the points if one is attending an interview), which has been problematic since DS has tried to schedule interviews for Fridays in order to leave Saturday as a travel day. Getting post-interview same-day return flights has been difficult, since there seem to be fewer “red-eye” specials than there used to be.
By and large, interviews have run smoothly. DS said that, ironically, some of the student interviewers seemed more ill-at-ease than he was. New in the role, perhaps.

Congrats, Pinkstuffz!

Getting that first one is such a wonderful feeling!

Well that interview wasn’t fun… I really liked this school and it was my top choice coming in, and now I’m feeling like any school except this. It makes me nervous for the other interviews I have scheduled. Sigh…

Pinkstuffz, sorry that things didn’t go as well as you would have liked, but turn that frown upside down. Things seem to have a way of always working out in the end.

Still crickets for me, but I think my state schools will come calling within a fortnight. Maybe even on my birthday if I’m lucky!

Sorry to hear the experience wasn’t what you’d hoped, Pinkstuffz.

mrpenguin–chin up! As I tell D2–any day without a rejection in your mailbox is a good day!

Pink–just remember that interviews are as much about you finding your fit as they are about schools finding students. You only get to go to one in the end anyway, so might as well start eliminating them as early as possible. Of my 4 interviews, I withdrew from one school after the interview because the environment just seemed too…toxic…for me. Got to the point that had I been accepted, I wouldn’t have wanted to attend–and this was a top 25 school!

Happens to the best of em. You’ll find your stride sooner or later. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks, limabeans! It’s been a while… I’ll pm you.

Pinkstuffz, I agree with Kristin - interviews are as much for you as they are for the adcoms. At least you got some experience out of this and can use it to do well in the others.

Mrpenguin, Hang in there.

My son will be leaving tomorrow night for his first interview to Columbus.

Pinkstuffz- I agree with kal and Kristin. I have finished few interviews . I felt exactly the same way in couple of places. There are no perfect schools , but I am sure that we all will find our match

Mrp - I am sure that good news will be coming your way soon. Many of my friends (who got verified late) are in the same boat.

kal- Your son is going to have a wonderful experience. I had a great time in columbus last week.
I am finishing up my Ohio interviews this week and moving down to southern region next week.My current schedule - take the earliest flight, go directly to interview and fly back the same evening. I picked up few infections while travelling ( still on antibiotics) . I try to sleep during flights and lack of sleep is definitely slowing me down.

If any one have any tips/ home remedies to overcome travel exhaustion , please let me know.
.

DD decided to string 3 interviews together to try and save some time and money on flights. Had one on Friday, returned home on Saturday and flew out again on Sunday for todays and is now on the last flight heading to last one tomorrow. She told me she is dead tired and is hoping she can muster some enthusiasm for the Tuesday school. Caffeine will be her friend tomorrow as she also loses an hour in the time change. A positive is that so far she has liked all the schools and said she could go there if given the opportunity. I keep telling her it is a blessing to be this tired!!

Sounds like the interviewees are becoming adept at flying around.

Thanks everyone!- I will move forward from this and take it as a learning experience. Just venting from the shock of the day.

Mrpenguin- Sending good vibes your way for invites! That would be a great birthday gift : )

Spring 162- Good luck to your daughter!

Piggle- Let me know what you find!

Heads up to applicants:

D2 was making hotel reservations for an interview that’s RSN. She called to make the reservation instead of doing an online reservation and was asked why she was going to be in town. She answered for a med school interview and was given 35% room rate discount at the hotel closest to the hospital.*

*RSN = real soon now

** over and above the discounted rate I could get her at this chain

MORAL: call hotels instead of booking online and make sure they know why you’re coming

WOWM… Don’t the schools usually recommend hotels closeby that gives special discount?

Or was the discount she received better than the agreed upon rate between school and hotel?

So far none of the schools have recommended hotels.

IIRC, none of the schools recommended hotels when D1 was interviewing either.

D2 is hoping she will get a list of student hosts from this school, but since the date is getting close wanted to book a room just in case. (Also there’s a big home football game the same weekend.)

Thanks for the encouragement WOWmom, kal, piggle, and Pink. It turns out that the birthday boy didn’t have to wait too long to get an interview invite! Help yourselves to some virtual birthday cake!
