D2 has been backing and forthing with her letter committee. It appears they don’t ask for any supporting letters/recommenders’ names before they write the committee letter! EEK! How can they do that?

Peculiar, but even more so is the fact they will only send your letter to one place. (i.e. AMCAS) but not to anywhere else so that if D2, for example, decides to apply to TX schools, which don’t use AMCAS—she won’t have a committee letter for any TX schools.

All I say is that every school does its own thing when it comes to committee letters. Weird.

Also since our state requires FOUR LORs including from a clinical/medical volunteer site supervisor, she’s set up an Interfolio acct to collect the additional letters.

She needs to get hopping. Deadline for getting all her stuff into the committee and having her interview is only 30 days away. (Most of the stuff is done, except for her PS [still under revision] and her interview. And scheduling that ought to be fun----she’ll have to take time off from work and fly in for it. I just hope the committee will be flexible with scheduling her.)

Re #101: Wait what? That’s nuts. I might be able to understand if they NEVER dealt with TMDSAS at all, I guess. But their being willing to send it to TMDSAS suggests they know how to do it.

Do they really expect Texas residents not to use AMCAS?

Good luck to everyone who hears back today on the MCAT-front. Scores were released earlier than I expected (roughly 11:30 a.m. eastern time). It has been a long month of waiting, but it’s over now. My scores were well in line with my practice test averages and make me a competitive applicant for my state schools, so I’m happy about that. I just wish it were a tad bit higher.

I’m both elated and irritated. Irritated that I didn’t make my goal, but happy that I beat my AAMC practice test average by 2 pts!!! Very happy that my score is consistent with my plans :D

Congrats to you all! Now you have the biggest test of your life done and done well.

Just hold it together for Step 1, Step 2 CK, Step 2 CS, Step 3, and then boards, and then more…I swear it’s never ending!

@somemom,
:D, I’m taking advanced cell bio, immunology, and advanced inorganic chem this semester. Those are the test I’m worried about. I can’t even look that far ahead yet, got to graduate first. :)

^Jealous she’ll be done soon. My test is at the end of May… Good luck to her!

And congratulations to those of you who are happy with your MCAT score! Definitely an accomplishment. Next up–filling out AMCAS. One tip you might already know–print or request an unofficial transcript that you can use to fill in your classes and grades. That way, it’s in the same order and uses the same terms the official transcript uses, which will make it easier on the AMCAS side when verification rolls around. Another tip you might already know–make the titles of your activities very descriptive. Eg “Responsible for all electron microscopy work at colon cancer research lab–2000hr” rather than “Research assistant at ACME Lab.” You want to make it as easy as possible for them to read as much about you as they can!
