What do you say when you get an interview at a school and you don’t want to go? I applied to Drexel as a nuclear option but I have interviews at other places I would much rather go.

@ragumar13 how did you find out?

I finally got a scan of my stanford letter, Interview 2/27-3/2! I also go an interview at CalTech Bio and UCLA ACCEESS! best week EVER!

Congrats, BioPhysANDchem!

Congrats! Definitely a good week for you!

****, BioPhysANDChem! You’re a rock-star!

Congrats to everyone getting invites!

Got my first rejection- Watson School Biological Science… oh well! I wasn’t too excited about the idea of living in long island anyway!

i ended up applying to less schools than I thought I was going to apply to since I tried to individualize every essay which ended up taking a lot of time. In other news have gotten invites to weill cornell, columbia, nyu and ucla access. Has anyone heard from Rockefeller?? I haven’t heard anyone say they have gotten rejections or invitations??

@air2147 Can I ask why you didn’t want to live in Long Island? I have an interview at Stony Brook and am basically looking for as much information as I can about the place. I’ve never been to Long Island and just want to be 100% informed (or as close to 100% as I can get anyway).

@diamedic17 I think it really depends on the type of person you are. I am a city girl and living in long island would feel stifling to me. Especially since it so close to NYC (where I currently live) I would feel like I just wanted to be living in the city. If you don’t mind living in a suburban area, that doesnt really have much activity then you will be fine there. Of course you will see for yourself what it is like when you go to Stony Brook and you can asses whether or not you would like to live in an area like that. At stony brook you have the option to work in CSHL laboratories which is great and it is still close enough to NYC (1 hour train ride) that if you feel like getting out of L.I. for the weekend it is pretty easy.

If you havn’t recieved an email from stanford, I suggest you check your SPAM I previously mentioned I got my interview date only by mail, but I checked my email this morning and found out I got the interview date way back on the 11th of this month…dont let gmail ruin your life.

thanks!! the suburban atmosphere is actually what i am looking for. Personally, I would like to live in the city but my wife wants something more rural so we have compromised and agreed on suburban living (which is basically where we live now and how I grew up). I think it’ll be a great fit for us but they are going to have to really impress me because I just interviewed at Drexel and I fell in love with them and Philadelphia.

Does anyone know what’s the acceptance rate of people interviewed by Stanford Bioscience Biology program?

@Th2Cell - I had a similar problem with “lost” transcripts at two of my schools. It was incredibly frustrating, but both were small enough programs that they just asked me for them at the interview.

Because ETS and schools are CONSTANTLY messing this stuff up (not to mention how confusing it can be with codes to different departments, programs, etc.), I’ll be sure to mention it to the program director. Hopefully they’ll work out an honor system style policy, just making sure to get official documents before enrollment or something. Like I said, this is all new to everyone.

Just so you know, this isn’t universally true. Many schools will know they are targeting admission of, say, 50 students, so they will admit about 25 from the first recruitment weekend and about 25 from the second. Often there is at least some flexibility in the number of students they are able to support, so they won’t hesitate to admit a few extra outstanding interviewees.

So some programs have a differential acceptance rate according to interview weekend, and others don’t. Often those that have a higher acceptance rate for the first weekend will try to schedule the students they think are strongest for that weekend.

@Tori1234 I’m not basing this on any hard data, but it must be lower than other places. I knew 3 people who interviewed there last year, all rejected.

anyone knows the post-interview acceptance rate for yale bbs?

Question: I heard from some graduate students and wanted to double check-is it a good idea to email faculty you interviewed with, after the interview, to thank them for meeting with you and whatnot?

Sure, it’s a nice (and professional) thing to do. It probably won’t help you admissions-wise, but it certainly won’t hurt.

Hi, everyone!
Can somebody tell me about the proper dress code for typical interview weekend?
Thanks a lot in advance!
