biotechstudent:

I was wondering about the biological sciences program at Columbia. Was the deadline extended to January 4th or has it always been on that date? I remember rushing to finish my application by the deadline (december 3rd), and now I see on the website it says that the deadline is January 4th, and there is no mention of any extension. Strange!

Columbia Biological Sciences interview invite! February 28-March 2.

@Merohedral: the deadline was always january 4th

@Erbbie3: congrats!

I’ve been unlucky with deadlines… I missed Harvard’s 5pm deadline, and the system wouldn’t let me submit my application :’-(

I was overbooked, with my finals, 15 grad school applications, personalized SOPs, GRE, TOEFL… November and December really were crazy months.

I suppose most of you can relate.

@ss2player & Th2cell

This is the first time BU’s used the PiBS integrated program and so while I’m not 100% sure what that means, we do have 2 very full interview days before March.
My hunch is that they’re trying to cover their butts in case a ton of applicants reveal that they’re all ACTUALLY interested in X track but they applied under a less popular one for better chances (That’s a REALLY bad idea, in case anyone just decided to do that). This is complete conjecture, though. All I know for sure is that they got an enormous number of applications - much more than expected - and they’re trying to put together a well balanced first PiBS class so no programs are over or underloaded.

I’m not sure if this has been answered yet, but does anyone know what the post-interview acceptance rate is like for Stanford Biosciences (specifically, Cancer Biology)?

Thanks, and good luck all!

Has anyone heard from stanford biophysics

Th2Cell that is the funniest thing I have seen all day.

@Merohedral I don’t know by how much you have missed the deadline you have mentioned but it might be worth contacting the admissions department anyway. I contacted the admissions department at Columbia having only discovered the program after the deadline and they told me that if i got my documents to them within two weeks of that email I could still be considered.

luckysambuca:

I tried to send my application at one minute past midnight, and when I clicked on “submit application” I got the message saying: “please select a program in the drop-down menu”, I clicked on the menu and the biological sciences option had just disappeared…

So I first contacted the admissions office, and what they basically said was “tough luck, that is what usually happens when you wait to the last minute to apply”. Then, I contacted someone else in the administration, who tried to help me, but unfortunately he was unable to. :-(

rabbitstew, thank you so much! This is really good to know. I called in and found out that they couldn’t find my GRE scores, initially. But, then, they did. So, I have no idea what this means for my application being considered…I could rage at ETS and Fate, but I’d rather go lift instead! But, again, your insight into the situation helps immensely, so thanks!

Ah, Cassandra108, I’m just trying to keep things light-hearted, lest I have a nervous breakdown! I am glad I could make you laugh.

interview for standford biochem by SNAIL MAIL! OHH EMM GEE

^ so I have to be honest, its my parents reading the letter, since I put their address down as the permanent address, and they dont read english that well

So, this is the 2nd school that has done this with me: Offers 2 interview dates, while stating they prefer/encourage the earlier one.

In both cases I have to choose the later one due to conflict w/another interview I already scheduled. Is going to the later interview date (1 or 3 weeks later) negatively affecting my chances to get accepted? Will more spots in the class fill up from the first interview date, leaving less % acceptance from the 2nd interview date?

Technically, yes. They have a pseudo-rolling admissions style, so your chances of being admitted by interviewing the first weekend are higher. I had one school explicitly tell me it was to my advantage to interview earlier.

Has anyone who applied to Northwestern DGP received an official rejection on the website yet?

Over the last few days:
Interview from UC Davis microbiology
Rejection from UW microbiology

Looks like I’ll have 3/5 interviews/applications. Since my undergrad wasn’t from a well known institution and I don’t have as many years of research experience as others, I’d say that’s pretty good. :)

I confirmed through email that UPenn and UColorado (Immunology) have sent out all their interview invites. …Darn!

@blueasyou

Was told by their office they sent out almost all their invites and if you haven’t gotten one yet, it’s highly unlikely. Sorry. :-/
