To those who are worried: REALISTICALLY we have until April 30th. Would it suck to not get accepted in this “next batch” of decisions? (If that batch even exists?!?!?!!) Yes, it wouldn’t be cool. However, it would be less cool to not be admitted at all.

If anything, a lack of change in housing or financial aid status might just indicate that you won’t be accepted in this “next batch” of decisions (IF THAT BATCH EVEN EXISTS - COME ON UCSD!!).

I know it’s hard… this is just my way of dealing with it haha.

@UCSD Barbra - do they really not even account for a GPA trend? Out of the last 6 semesters I’ve gotten a 4.0 in all except for a 3.25 in one. That is pretty soul crushing if that kind of work at redemption fails to sway an admittance committee.

I’m sure admission depends on a variety of factors, but throughout all the searching I’ve done it seems like it weighs heavily on GPA and major preparation. Those are the “big two” things they primarily take into account. Does being a re-entry student also make you stand out? Sure. That’s my story as well. I did poorly one semester, quit college, worked and came back 6 years later. I have two F’s and a D that I had to report on my transcript as well as academic probation (because of those grades). Additionally, I’m applying to an impacted major (mechanical engineering). I’ve retaken those classes and done well since then and they will see that. They will see you have done well too. Despite that, I’m fully prepared to have some person in admissions read my application and think to their self “Naaah, he’s close, but too many red flags from the past” and not be admitted. This is something I hope won’t happen, but have been preparing for because it’s unfortunately the risk you take in applying.

I understand where you’re coming from, especially from the “But I’m serious now” angle (and how it’s actually true).

I was rejected from UCSB as well - that was the first “decision” I heard.

For Tag, there’s a 3.5 UC gpa cutoff at UCSD. It’s posted on their admissions site. That’s not to say that someone isn’t considered by admissions as a non-tag under that cutoff–I know people are and I’m sure that’s where the upward trend comes into play…

The pre-reqs for TAG are pretty clear, if your cumulative GPA is below 3.5, then you will not have standing to apply for TAG; however, you are considered for admission as a regular admit provided that you meet the minimum GPA to apply.

My question, I understand you retook your courses, but did you apply for Academic Renewal? I was in the same position as you, and this is what I did and I was accepted to UCSD without a TAG, and to UCI with TAG.

I’m missing physics 3 and I think two other courses that articulate to UCSB courses from my community college. I’m guessing that’s what it was. It says completing the physics series is “critical to admissibility” on their website. I’m missing physics 3 from UCSD’s list off assist.org… I’m hoping they can see past that because I only have 1 B from 2006 on my transcript and it was in human sexuality (of all courses).

I did get into UCI though with 6 classes missing from their assist.org and I’m soo thankful for that. Although UCSD is my first choice, I’m completely content with going to UCI if that’s the direction it goes.

Funny thing is… UCB is the only UC I actually have 100% of the prerequisites complete for… but I’d reject them in a heartbeat if SD accepted me. Can’t beat the library/weather/location.

They definitely consider grade trends. It’s probably the only reason I got in. I also have a strong inkling they read some of the personal statements too. To put it in perspective, in 2010 alone, I had 5 w’s, 2 D’s, 1 F. Overall, after the AR’s, it came out to a 2.5 gpa for that year. I explained my situation in my PS.

Same thing is happening to me its taking forever. What you guys think I am sophomore applied to transfer as junior. I went to Chico State my first year, and now go to Arizona State university. I am business management (entrepreneurship) major and applied for economics and mathematics joint major. I am a San Diego Native and first semester I got a 3.2 gpa and last 2 i got 3.94 gpa. Currently have a 3.71 cum GPA with all prerequisites completed. Any information you guys can give me? Chances, anyone else accepted in that major if so whats your current stats? Thanks
