I’m a sophomore and the writing and math was incredibly fair. The critical reading … Now that was hard! I didn’t care since it doesn’t count for national merit and I couldn’t concentrate. I have eczema on the back of my leg. I was wearing jeans and during the entire test I get jumping up on my seat trying to scratch my damn leg.
I’m pretty sure I got like 10 questions correct out of everything in the critical reading section. Not to mention, I didn’t read any of the passages, they were way too long.

@Xiomara I’m a junior, and I agree! Hopefully the curve on critical reading will be more favorable. I thought math wasn’t too bad. I think I missed two on that section and one on writing. I heard that the College Board occasionally omits questions after scoring the PSAT.

I mean that it doesn’t grade them.

Tell me about it! I did well I think in CR and sort of in math, but I stupidly messed up in writing at the end. Is it just me, or was the writing one a bit longer than usual? I mean, all the practice tests I finished with 10 minutes (literally) to spare, but on the real thing, I ran out of time for the last 2!

@Cminman I understand haha! Also, I don’t know who on Earth to base my answers on, some of the incredibly intelligent kids are having debates, etc. Also, many of the kids are mixing up words of the questions. Can’t wait til December. Do you think that it’s possible that next year the PSATs will be less challenging (critical reading ) ?

@atm28vacations Yes! The writing portion was long, but it’s probably since kids tend to do better on that section so they thought to add more questions ? I’m really not sure. I didn’t do the last 5 questions :(

It seems like last year’s PSAT was much easier, so I presume it’s a possibility. I’m really worried about my score since it’s most likely borderline semi finalist and commended.

Tell me about it Cminman! I excelled in the Reading b/c I’m a nutrition fanatic, so the passage about cows was pretty easy for me (that’s the kind of stuff I read on my spare time), but there were three math questions I omitted, I nailed the Grid-ins, but lost easy points on the Writing for stupid mistakes and not timing myself accordingly. I nearly killed myself when I heard my proctor say “STOP” as if the world was going to end or something. I have a feeling I’ll be points away from NMS and if so, I’m going to go berserk. I’ll probably lock myself up again to study for the SAT.

Why wouldn’t confrontational…reciprocate work?

“Since she was unaccustomed to having a confrontational role at board meetings, she didn’t reciprocate when asked to take the mic and talk to the parents”

It avoids the double negative and works well with the word “reciprocate,” meaning to return an action, which is what the girl did not do in response to being asked

^that’s what I thought…EXACTLy why this PSAT was majorly flawed…
passive…balk also works… but so does confrontational…reciprocate… idk anymore

i put “they are her” for the writing quseiton as well…but a lot of people also put “it is her”…ughhh screw this PSAT…

also was the apple per pound thing 24 cents?

ya hopefully there’s a big curve because there were of lot of questions that could go either way

yea the apple one was 24 cents.

why are people discussing math so much? i dont remember there being any unclear questions in math.

what did you guys put for the CR question on the farm passage that was like
“what would passage 1 say about having cows in zoos”? I put amused because cows usually weren’t in zoos, but im not really sure at all…

do you remember any of the other choices because I’m not sure if i put that or not

For the one that asked about what would passage one say about the cows, I think the correct answer was having cows in zoos was insufficient because passage 1 talked about more so actually experiencing the farm-life.

but passage 1 explicitly said that “a direct experience with cows is not necessary, but people should still know the conditions of farm life”.

i think it was paragrah 1

so the answer to that question about the potato and cow together…they don’t emphasize direct experience so do they illustrate the problem in ordinary terms? thats what i put

.cuz we hardly remember cr questions:D
