Haven’t posted in a while, but D is applying this cycle. Had a disappointing MCAT, will get retake score in a few weeks. She did get an II today! But she is overwhelmed with school responsibilities and still has a few secondaries to go :(. I’m stressed, and I’m not the one applying!

Congrats to your D on her II, dheldreth! I know what you mean about feeling stressed – and not being the one applying!

congrats on all the II so far and high hopes for many more to come

dheldreth–congrats on your DD’s II. Very nice considering she is retaking the MCAT so they obviously are looking at the first score! She will do just fine.

In DS news, the committee letter was FINALLY uploaded to AMCAS yesterday from his school. He had started getting “your LOR’s are not received, so your file is not complete” emails from several schools. Hopefully AMCAS gets them down to the schools quickly so maybe he’ll start getting some II’s soon. Luckily he’s spent the last two weeks out of the country doing thesis research and doesn’t have access to internet or phone. That has allowed him to not stress over it all for a couple of weeks (or at least have other things to focus on).

Thanks Ohiomom, camom & VAmom - I do hope it all works out. D almost decided not to apply this cycle, but her pre-med advisor said the rest of her application was strong, and she should go ahead and apply and retake the MCAT. She did a Kaplan course, so hopefully that helped.

VAmom it’s good that your son had something fun to focus on for at least a little while. I’m sure he will have good news soon.

The waiting without clear end point is difficult-- thank goodness classes have started and hopefully will help distract D-- and all your kids too.

Congrats Dheldreth to your DD on her II. The process is a long haul, but they will get through it. They have more stamina than we give them credit for.

Just attended DS’s WC Ceremony it was pretty Epic!. He also mentioned he will be hosting someone next week. What???, wasn’t he just interviewing last week…lol. It goes by really fast guys. Good luck. It only takes one acceptance.

Waiting, waiting, waiting. MCAT one-and-done, check. Verified, check. Secondaries submitted, check. Fees paid, check. LoRs sent, check. Completed files, check. Waiting, waiting, waiting.

HooWoo med schools. Have you forgotten someone here?

Meant to say… YooHoo med schools^ But maybe it really should be WooHoo because that’s how I’m feeling. :((

Limabeans, I bet there will be some good news soon. Good luck to all in this process.

Sending good thoughts and best wishes all your way!! It seemed as if the process would take forever…
Son finished up third year in June and started his year of b-school, in June, which he says is very, very different than med school! He will start MS4 again in May of 2015.

Enjoy the time with them parents, after ms starts they will be BUSY!

Again, good luck to all applying this season.

Kat

MS1 here-
our school’s interview cycle kicked off yesterday. I got the chance to talk with some of the applicants.
This was the first interview for most of them . These applicants submitted their applications early and files were completed early as well .Half of them are on gap year.
moral of the story - if your kids are not in that early applicant circle, no need to panic yet…
In the mean time try to attend mock interview session( if your school offer ) send updates, etc
Best wishes to all

limabeans-- I’m right there with you! Everything was done in July except LOR’s which were committee letter and they were finally done August 26th. DS got lots of “your file is complete” emails after the LOR’s were downloaded. Now we are waiting, waiting, waiting. Hopefully at least one II will pop soon to calm DS (and me too!). It’s going to be a long spring waiting for acceptances! :-/

Our oldest is MS2 so we’ve been through this before. She was completed everywhere by early August and did not get some II until Nov or Dec so don’t give up hope. S is applying this cycle & had a few II but the last interview,

This is definitely going to be a long year. D has a good resume - good grades, research, shadowing, volunteer, extracurricular and leadership experiences. But oh, that MCAT. Contrary to all the advice given on CC and elsewhere, she was not one-and-done. She was not two-and-done. She took the MCAT for the 3rd time in August and received her score today - finally a competitive score. But she still stinks in Physics! She has received 2 II, I don’t know if her multiple MCAT is going to hurt, but I’m sure she’ll have to explain it in an interview.

Her MCAT numbers cannot be that bad if she already received 2 II. Her LizzyM score must be spectacular now with the new MCAT. Congrats.

Congrats for the 2nd II for your DD, dheldreth!

I’m finally happy to announce that DS has his first II. And in classic DS fashion, he received this II over a week ago and didn’t realize it (school sent a “your status has changed” email right after his LOR’s were uploaded, so he didn’t check and see that it was a II). Luckily they sent a “hey, clueless, are you going to accept our II? If not we will rescind it in two days” email which finally caught his attention! 8-|

At least now he has one interview so he’s feeling pretty good–hopefully more will follow!

I wonder if my DS has those “hey clueless emails too”. I heard the applications are WAY up this year, in part because everyone got theirs done so early, but also maybe because some didn’t want to wait until next year when so many schools add lots of new requirements.

I’m new on this thread and haven’t been on CC in a long time. DS has applied to med schools for fall 2015. I know I’m more nervous than he is about the whole process. Can someone tell me, is a II an interview? Thanks!

Wirefox, II is an interview invite. Welcome to the premed forum…there are many parents who have gone though this trying time, and one in particular (wayoutwestmom) who has great information!
