2014-2015 applicants and their parents

Congratulations, Ohiomom. Sounds like he had a hectic October, but some good news so he can breathe and enjoy the rest of his year.

Congratulations to Ohiomom and S! Sounds like a great start with more decisions still to come.

Congrats to Ohiomom’s son! and the others!

Congrats to Ohiomom’s DS. So great that he has had 9 interviews!!

Texas comes out this week?

Good luck to Texas applicants!

@racquetdad, be happy (thrilled) your son has an acceptance at all. Plus several more ii still to come. My son submitted everything in July too, so it’s been …… 4 months and still no word from many schools. Well, he has one ii, but it’s not until January! The rest are rejections or silence. He went to a very top pre-med school, tough major, had all the “extras” (research, leadership, work, clinical exp., community service, shadowing, etc.), plus a 38 on his MCAT. His gpa is above last year’s average. AND, the schools that have rejected him are above his #s (he didn’t apply to many of those), right on the money (this really disappointed me), and one somewhat below.

Here’s what I think: this year, med schools are more innundated than usual. Med schools interviewed many folks and surprisingly allowed for many more early acceptances. Now they’re just waiting to see who’s going to attend. The reason for signifigantly more students: 1) the new MCAT is making everyone quite anxious. Many more took the old MCAT and applied this year, allowing a year or two before their scores expire. 2) Many medical schools are changing requirements to coincide with the new MCAT. Since no one wants to be a re-app for fear they won’t have the requirements, most students, including those tippy tops like your son applied to many schools and schools across the board, even to “lesser” schools. I’ve seen some students apply to 50 schools!

limabeans, We are thrilled that he has been accepted to one school. Your reasons for rejections/silence make complete sense to me. Good luck to your son.

limabeans–It is a tough year. Hopefully your DS receives a few more II’s. It seems like a mystery how they pick who they want to interview. Sending positive thoughts for more II’s and an acceptance!

DS had his first interview yesterday. He said it went very well and he was very excited about the school. They said it could be several months before he hears anything. The waiting continues.

It is so hard to be rejected! And so hard not to take it personally even though it feels like they are rejecting an application made up of you personally. I definitely agree with the logic that it’s a complicated numbers game and sometimes you just fall on the wrong side of the numbers. It sounds like there’s nothing specifically wrong with what he did and while it sucks to be a victim of the numbers, maybe he can take some solace knowing it happens to literally everyone. (Happened to me with med school apps and with residency apps and the thing that always keeps my chin up is recognizing that in the end, you can only attend one med school, so really…one IS actually enough!) Good luck!!

Limabeans, sending positive vibes your way, hope the interview goes well in January, and more II come. VAMom, hope your son gets good news soon. This is definitely an unpredictable process, at least compared to undergrad admissions, but hopefully in the end everyone here will have an acceptance.

Any Texas news? Hoping some of you (and yours) got great news today!

I am surprised no one is talking Texas here.

I know this isn’t the right place, but we happily got news today that my son’s long-time girlfriend has been accepted to PA school…and it’s at the same place as my son’s med school. We had been crossing fingers and toes that she’d get accepted to the same place…and she did. Yay. They have been together since high school.

Congrats to everyone with good news!

and crossing fingers and toes for future good news for those who are still waiting.

^Congrats, mom2!

Congrats m2CK!

Congrats to accepted M2CK and to other parents of accepted kids.

Happy to report my S was accepted today at one of his favorite schools. It is such an incredible relief to have one acceptance. He feels the same way of course. I definitely cried tears of joy and could hardly talked when he called.

Congratulations M2CK - I 'm sure it is a relief to them to be able to go to school in the same place. Long distance relationships are hard.

Wirefox, I know you and your son are happy. It is such a long journey and it feels good to have that acceptance - you deserve those tears of joy. Congrats!

Congrats wire fox! I know that feeling, and that smile won’t be off your face for weeks.

And if any of you newbies has an acceptance at my daughters school, please feel free to ask aany thing.!!
