Applying to UCLA's TFT for Screenwriting

Thanks a lot

Based on your user name and college class year I think you will have a great chance at being admitted… haha jk

Being serious:
Your GPA is low. A weighted GPA of 3.7? most people applying/admitted will have weighted GPAs over a 4.0 Even an unweighted GPA of 3.7 is low. I think that will be one of your biggest detriments on your application.

Your SAT scores aren’t bad but the average admit will have a bit higher than that, hopefully you can bring it up the second time you take it. So your score will likely neither aid or hurt your chances.

You have quite a lot of extra-curriculars, some of which are more noteworthy than others. These will likely be helpful.

BTW- The UCLA School of TFT (the undergraduate program) does not admit students from high school. It’s a two year upper division program, you apply after being at UCLA already for two years. So you’re not applying to TFT for screenwriting, you’ll apply (most likely) to the College of the Letters and Sciences (about a 20% admit rate).

Taking into consideration all of this, in my opinion your chance of admission into UCLA is not great, mainly because of your unimpressive GPA. Sorry to disappoint, just keepin’ it real.

Sorry, my unweighted GPA is a 3.7. I’m not sure what my weighted is out of 4.0, but I know its a 112.01.

Thanks a lot. Hopefully that will change what you said a little bit.

I agree with the above poster. SAT is in the right zone, maybe a little low (if you take it enough times, it will be fine), but your GPA should be higher. Is that the GPA that you will end up reporting? Are you taking summer school?

3.7 isn’t high enough? a 94 unweighted isn’t good? It’s a 112.01 weighted. I thought that was pretty good

^
no, its not.

even a 3.7 unweighted is low. Typical ucla-admit GPA would be like 3.85+ unweighted and 4.1+ weighted.

It’s certainly a lot better than a 3.7 weighted though lol. But still it’s not impressive.

Will taking an online course for UCLA help my chances at all? I;m taking the In-Depth fundamentals to Screen Writing class.

^ Sure. If it’s a college transferable class and you get an A it certainly won’t hurt.
But it won’t make up for a low GPA.

What will help you is if you have had some sort of disadvantage (like being minority, low income etc) and you write really good essays. Other than that I just can’t imagine you getting in with what you’ve posted. Just bein’ honest here.
