Thanks Faline2! The support and advice offered on College Confidential has been terrific. The whole experience of applying to selective schools and merit scholarships has been quite an education for me.
D was prepared to not make the cut for Ingram as she knew how competitive it was–she wasn’t prepared to not have her application reviewed because of a technology glitch on their end. All that said, after the tears were over, we have talked about our underlying fundamental belief that in the end, the right thing always happens and that sometimes it just takes awhile to find out what the “right” thing is going to be.
@CoMoMom I had a similar experience with a different school. Except the glitch was on my end. I was very disappointed even though when applying I knew there was a slim chance that I would get it.
congratulations to your daughter. I hope she has a memorable experience with the other finalists. Yes, I believe she will have assistance with her trip to Nashville.
Does this mean my kid is the only one from the CC crowd that got invited? Please do say no ! Yesterday we , as a family, watched the Ingram Scholarship video. So sad that Mr. Ingram passed away only a year after establishing this scholarship:) Daughter is looking forward to her weekend in Nashville ! And looks like she has been accepted to Vandy !
Hi! I know this discussion/post is kind of old but anyway… I’m a senior in high school applying to Vanderbilt and the Ingram Scholarship as well. Can anyone tell me about the process, the school, the scholarship, etc.?
a lot of googling time will bring you context. Ingrams are required to do service work in various avenues at Vanderbilt which I believe can be negotiated to dovetail with academic goals. Current Ingrams have some input into selection of new Ingrams. This is the only merit scholarship to my knowledge that involves on campus required interviews. Obviously, only a few are chosen from the finalists. Vandy doesn’t do “overnights” anymore for applicants but I believe Ingrams are there two nights as part of the finalist selection experience.
I would encourage all students applying for the Ingram Scholarship to watch this documentary on the history and selection process. You will have to devote at least an hour–but you will gain tremendous insight as to whether or not it is the program for you!
