Hello everyone!
How many of you applied for the Ingram Scholarship this year? Semi-finalists should be announced by the end of this week.
Good luck to everyone!
Hello everyone!
How many of you applied for the Ingram Scholarship this year? Semi-finalists should be announced by the end of this week.
Good luck to everyone!
My D did. Good luck to you and all that applied!
I did! Can’t wait to find out about semifinalists!
I applied. I’m super nervous though. This is a competitive scholarship good luck everyone!
@maxwxll Good luck to you as well!
Son applied. Good luck everyone! Won’t it be nice when all the waiting is over??
I applied! I’m so excited and nervous!! I hope they tell us soon and I wish y’all luck:)
I applied as well! Are we notified by email? Also, does everyone receive notification at the same time, or just the semifinalists? And does anyone know roughly how many semifinalists there are?
Sorry for the interrogation…can you tell I’m a little nervous? Good luck to everybody!
I just got an email, but was not selected. So I think that no matter what you’ll receive an email. Good luck everyone!
I also got an email and was not accepted but wishing all of the other applicants the best!
I was not selected either - good luck to all other applicants!
@Nattybrow2015 @mockbulldog14 @Benzy50 Thank you for letting us know that the emails are going out. I know that it is disappointing to not be selected as a semi-finalist. We all know how competitive these merit awards are at Vandy. You are winners in my book because you took the time to put together the application! Have a great holiday weekend!
Has anyone else heard anything back from Ingram Scholars? We are still waiting on pins and needles to find out if our D will make the first cut…
I was not selected as semifinalist either.
My D never heard anything back on Ingram so she emailed them on Sunday night. She got an email back on Monday morning that they did not receive her application!?! She has forwarded documentation that Ingram received her two recommendations and has not gotten any response. It is one thing to not make the cut in this competitive pool of applicants, it is another thing when your application does not even get considered because of a website glitch!?! Sorry, just needed to let off some steam…
this happened to our son with Emory Scholars. They admitted his application was not reviewed by the committee even though he had met all the (early) deadlines and his application for Scholars was in place (including being one of two of his high school nominees). Emory had a lot of issues that year in admissions and several people were replaced the following year. Someone on the Emory admissions staff who finally answered our appeals through the high school guidance counselor’s calls supposedly reviewed and rejected his application. (he was admitted to Emory however). There were a few other students complaining of the same issue that year of lost scholar applications.
I would have your guidance counselor call to inquire if all decisions are made and if it is possible to be reviewed by staff members. There is still a chance someone will review your student’s application. Kudos for your daughter for making this effort.
Our son had other offers that were wonderful and I hope your D will have a great offer from Vandy and or other colleges to weigh in the end.
Vandy’s admission team is a pretty well run ship in my view. They have someone assigned to each region and are likely done traveling and settled in to make selections on campus now. Make sure your regional representative is aware of this glitch.
There are more ways to enjoy Vanderbilt outside of Ingram with need and merit aid. Stay open-hearted
so sorry and best wishes.
@Faline2 Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and suggestions. They are greatly appreciated! I will let you know what we find out. So far no one has responded to her appeal email.
CoMoMom, Without making a federal case out of human error, I would ask your school counselor to contact the regional Vandy adcom by phone and leave a message. Or to draft a brief inquiry letter to the head of admissions and copy to the regional adcom. No one owes our kids a merit scholarship, and most applicants are worthy of merit… but if there is any way to have a portion of the committee review her application, that is pretty much your request. I have not seen an indication that the semi finalist invitations have gone out yet. Perhaps they have. Only finalist names are publicized after awards are made. The college application process is arduous but believe me so is applying for internships, committees and jobs and our son remarked several time that this senior year process helped him deal realistically with the next rounds of rejections and applications ahead of him.
Well, sad news, they will not review her application. They have their IT people looking to see if some kind of error message was generated on their end and want to know if she got an error message which she did not. But the answer is “too bad. If you are admitted to Vandy you can apply during your second semester of your freshman year.” My D is devastated as Vandy is her first choice. Nothing I can say to console her. Learning that life is not always fair is such a painful lesson. To anyone who is a semi-finalist or finalist, congratulatios and good luck!
Ok, CoMoMom, thanks for letting us know what happened. Please encourage her to be open hearted as her results come in. It would have been nice to have some regret expressed. Getting an Ingram is a rare occurrence but good for her for doing the work to make the effort to present herself to the committee. One of my best friend’s daughter was rejected for the Ingram and got into Harvard and won a full ride to three other colleges. She took a full ride merit to another school. She was offered the CV at Vandy-- she had a very strong application. Honestly the same can be said for hundreds of applicants now at Vanderbilt who bring in amazing applications. When oldest son applied to Vandy there were less than 12 thousand applications overall. That was ten years ago. What a difference a decade made at Vanderbilt.
anyway, I digress. no fun to never be reviewed after getting the reference letters and writing the essay.
