Haha, my ceremony is held at the Georgia tech conference center, which is amazing. But yeah state winners are notified in Jan cause thats what it says on their website. So you still have a chance at state!! We got a tshirt at the state banquet, but it was from tech, not from the NCWIT.
Yeah. I won the national award this year. But state winners haven’t been announced yet, so dont know about that.
Wow -congrats!! Im sure the national awards ceremony will be amazing. Ours was at University of Houston Downtown, but I applied to Georgia Tech early action haha

Thank you! I applied to tech ea as well!! I was notified on the 19th.
I was just informed that I got the national runner-up, yay! So now what? What do I receive, do I get to go to any banquets? Please someone explain

@computergirll , do you know what your email said? Does it say that you fly to NC? If it does, then you get to attend 2 banquets. One at the state level (most likely you will also be a state winner) and then you go to NC. If your email did not mention NC, then you will go to the state level banquet.
@jmh311 , it all depends. You will for sure go to the state level. At the state level you will be invited to a reception hall. As you enter, you can goof off and take pictures in a booth with random stuff (like big glasses, scarfs, etc). You will be handed your prize bag. My prize bag last year had like small gadgets and small things. I got a 5 in 1 charger kit, a google chain, google socks, a skype gift card, etc. you will eat appetizers and interact with other girls or just stand and eat (crackers, cheese, grapes). Then when time is called the doors to the reception will open and everyone will take a seat at a table. At the table, you will eat a salad, then a meal (Veg or nonveg) (usually like a chicken and beans and pasta), then a desert. It’s very professional. As you eat, you will get to talk to others at your table. (Hi, how are you, where are you from, etc). Then a key speaker will share her journey of computing (like an undergrad girl usually). Then they will line you up by award and by last name and they will present the award. After, they announce the educator award (teacher). Then they take a picture and that’s it!
The gift bags are randomized, like they can be different for each state and for each year, so you really don’t know what to expect in them, but they are cool stuff.
I don’t know what NC is like and if national runner ups go to NC. So cant really say anything. But am guessing that its similar except that you talk to Bank of America officials for internships, stay in a hotel, hang out, etc. National winners get 500$, laptop, and etc.

@computergirll - okay so first off- a HUGE CONGRATS!!! so, you it looks like you will be attending the state banquet. But you will also receive a prize package from the national banquet, but you will not physically attend it. So the prizes that the national winners receive (the gadgets and all that- not the 500$/laptop), you will also receive them- but they will be mailed to you. In march 4-6, you will receive the prize package because that’s when the ceremony will take place.
So what you want to do right away is to reply saying: “Hi, I accept/deny the award. My mailing address is : ____________”
Then go to aspirations.org or whatever the site is, and make sure your bio is up to date, all you rinfo is up to date, and there is a picture of you on your bio.
In terms of banquet information, you will get that in January because since you are a national runner up, chances are that you are also a state winner. so, in January you will get an email from someone else (head of Georgia tech in my case) and it will say “congrats! You are a winner!”. And then some sort of invitation will reach you and you will get all the information (where it is, when it is). My invitation was through an evite last year, don’t know how yours is gonna be.
I don’t know what the national prize package is, but chances are that they are going to be gadgets like flash drive, 2 certificates, tshirt, printer( I saw someone said printer on youtube), bank of America pens, that kind of stuff. Also, join that facebook group- you will get info about it at your banquet if not earlier. That group has a lot of internship opportunities. Your prize package will also include internship opportunities and all that.
If you want, you can search up “NCWIT national winner” on youtube and there is a video of this Asian (oriental) girl getting interviewed and she describes how in her national prize package, she got a printer and a flashdrive and other knickknacks

Last year, I got a $50 gift card, a certificate, some flyers, and one small gadget.
@purrples , congrats!!! Keep up the great work! You will get an invitation. It will be sent to your email-the one that you provided during application time. The email will be a facebook invite.

Hi, also, do you guys know if we win national and national runner ups, do we win any prizes for our school?
@jmh311 , u only get a set of awards for your school. So at state, you will get two engraved glass trophies-one for your school and one for you. If you are a national winner, you get two more at the NC banquet-1 for your school one for u. If you are a runner up, you get 2 certificates-one for your school and one for u.
You do get opportunities to start a chapter in your school and all that, but that’s not a physical prize-its more of spreading awareness in your school
