2016-2017 Financial aid

@thumper1 Unfortunately, my school doesn’t send of this information via email. I have to constantly check my student account to see if I have any holds and then call the school to see what I have to do.

I think the only adjustment may be that a subsidized loan becomes unsubsidized, although I don’t know if they can even make that adjustment

But if EFC is too high for Pell grant anyway, what aid were you getting?

You should be able to take your maximum direct loans regardless, depending on COA some may be subsidized.

I’m a graduate student. And the only aid I’m getting are unsubsidized loans.

When did you graduate from this online college? If you graduated in May or June…and are not currently in a degree seeking program, you aren’t entitled to any federally funded loans.

Did you complete the 2017-2018 fafsa just for the purpose of getting aid for summer 2017…for taking courses not in a degree program?

Or are you now doing a grad degree.

I’m confused.

@thumper1 I have not graduate from this online college. I got my bachelors in May 2013. I decided to get my masters in Oct. 2015. I’m five courses away from obtaining my masters. The online college have four terms per school year. This is is the first term of this school year.

What are you getting a masters in?

You may have been better served working and letting your employer pay for graduate school

@sybbie719 Accounting. My employer does not pay for graduate school.

What are your chances of getting a job at a large corporation (big 4 accounting) where you may have better benefits and more $$. you are going to take on a lot of debt

@sybbie719 I was waiting on getting my masters to get another job. I was previously at a big corporation that had tuition reimbursement. But, they laid my entire region off to have the accounting dept in another state.

Thank you for the clarification.

So…you are a grad student. Really, the only need based aid most grad students get is the unsubsidized loan. No Pell Grant…no SEOG, and at an online school…I bet no institutional aid either.

The unsubsidized loan amount can’t exceed your cost of attendance. But if that is ALL you are getting in aid, it is very possible you won’t owe anything to your online school.

But please do stay on top of this. You don’t want to end up with a bill that is unpaid.

How much in unsubsidized loans did you take for the 2016-2017 school year?

@thumper1 you’re welcome.

You’re right, no other aid than unsubsidized loans. That is the aid I receive for school.

I am on top of this. I can’t afford to have another bill and having to pay for this current term without my financial aid. I will be contacting the school Monday morning.

I received 20,333 for the 2016-17 school year
