2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 1)

I think that is fine, abasket! The rehearsal dinner we are invited to is at a private room in a restaurant, and I believe we will be ordering off a limited menu. I did do a little reconnaissance with some of the more far flung relatives ahead of time and told D to let groom’s mom know some of them would not be coming to the wedding, so no need to invite them to rehearsal dinner.

Someone upthread asked if my broken shoes could be fixed, nope I tossed them. Whatever shoes I do get for the wedding, I will be bringing a pair of comfortable flat sandals to wear for the reception. Dress is long, if anyone even notices, I really don’t care. I had my eyebrows waxed for the first time ever yesterday in preparation for the big day, and stopped by a makeup counter to get some foundation and powder also (I NEVER wear makeup but thought I would try a little).

I solved the shoe conundrum. We just re sodded the back yard. We are going So California all the way. A good pedicure and bare feet for me.

Sounds great! Wouldn’t work for me in the church ceremony though.

Thought about a pedicure, but as I’ve never had a manicure of any type, I have this odd suspicion I would get some weird infection.

Hair colored, brows tinted, 20 table runners ironed. Trying to figure out a time for the pedicure.

Also played around with false eyelashes for the first time today. ( first time on myself; I used to do D’s eyelashes when she was a little dance company girl ). My attempt was a disaster.

@2VU0609 : "Invites went in the mail at the end of last week and arrived on Monday and Tuesday for D’s 6/25 wedding. "

How in the world…

My DD is hiring someone to come to the house where she will be staying with her bridesmaids to do hair & makeup. The respective moms of bride & groom are invited too.

Take a deep breath Missypie. All will be well.

Exciting days for all of you now! Son’s wedding July 9.
Is anyone having luck with self tanning products ? Care to recommend anything!
I bought “tan towels” only used once so far ok.
Enjoy … Countdown

Bought some shoes for S’s wedding today. Not 100% convinced that this is what I want/wanted, but I’m concerned about time. I’m wearing a short dress and am not comfortable with anything too fancy. I don’t do high heels (these ARE high heels to me!) I wanted something comfortable, something I can dance in (I’m a running shoe, Keens, TOMS type girl so this is a stretch getting nicer shoes!

I tried them on at Nordstrom Rack but looked them up and they were $20 cheaper on Amazon so ordered them while in The Rack.

Those are great, @abasket! I agree, if you are not a high heels wearer, those are definitely high heels. Even for me, and I will every once in a while wear a dressy shoe with a little height, that lift would be enough.

I am sure you will look beautiful.

@calmom -A word of advice from someone who has btdt with the day of hair/makeup…bring your own hand mirror to check on the work in progress. You may not be in front of a wall mirror like in a salon. Also, pictures of yourself done up or of a hair style you want will be helpful to the stylist.

Thanks for the advice - I’m getting my hair cut shorter before the wedding so I don’t think there will be a lot of options. My hair is very wavy & I always have it layered when it is shorter.

The mirror suggestion is a good idea – I’ll suggest it to my daughter as something nice to have on hand for everyone getting prepped.

Kid #2 just got engaged (yay!), and Kid #1 (who is much more judicious than her brother about what she discloses to us) has been casually/deliberately dropping references to issues she might have coordinating with him if she, too, decided to get married. But I think 2016 is out of the question for either of them. I’ll have to wait for the 2017 or 2018 Wedding Dads thread.

My TJ’s her gardens look pathetic. I didn’t realize until Saturday that they have no drainage in the bottom, so they drowned. A few look okay but most are really sad.

Wedding week is upon us and I am trying to play such mental games with myself…saying this will be fun this will be fun this will be fun…

Missy, can you drill or poke holes in the bottom of the herb gardens? Letting out water and giving them a day or two might turn them back around.

So your wedding is this weekend? Oh my! What is the mood and anxiety level for everyone at this point? Is it a Saturday wedding?

Abasket, we’ll just have to see. I had them in the sun over the weekend, but it’s going to be rainy at least through Thursday, so can’t dry out outside.

Yes, a Saturday wedding. Son is anxious and I was having him list the things about which he is anxious, hoping to calm him down element by element. Then he got to “We are supposed to write our own vows and neither of us have started yet” and I told him, yes, that IS something about which to be anxious!

Oh no, missypie! If the herb containers are plastic, poking holes is easy. I would not drill into a terracota pot though without a special drill bit! Hope the plants can be salvaged.

There is something to be said for going with the standard vows.

Aww, writing their own vows. A few words that really mean something can be plenty!

I suggest you print out several traditional vows you can find online for your son . It is a little easier to edit than to start with a blank page.

Just ask him to highlight passages he likes and cross through thoughts that he doesn’t like. It might help jumpstart the process.
