@runnersmom, sending warm wishes for a wonderful wedding weekend.
@runnersmom, I hope the power comes back on, and even if it doesn’t that everything is lovely. You and the couple have certainly been amazing when it comes to dealing with whatever is thrown your way.
What stories you’ll have to tell…
Thanks everyone - I’ll let you all know how the wedding saga proceeds tomorrow. It’s 8:30pm here now and my H, my mom and I are sitting in our den, reading by flashlight. It’s pouring outside and, for good measure, it’s a little chilly! Con Ed says power back by 11pm tonight - I will be long asleep by then (been up since 4:30am) and I’m not sure I believe them (actually I don’t ) but it would be a nice surprise.
A very old and dear friend is out of town and offered me her house today to shower and frost the wedding cake which is now sitting in her fridge. That was a real ray of sunshine in this debacle. But the kids continue to amaze me with their attitude so tomorrow this will all be a very unique memory!!
The support here is truly priceless - you all get a share of credit in getting me to tomorrow. Can’t believe this is finally happening, one way or another!
I have a feeling that if your “kids” had to get married in the rain wearing potato sacks they would still be beaming. That is the essence of love. Along with their mother/mil who has moved heaven and earth for their day.
No more worrying, just enjoy!
@runnersmom -All the best for the big day. It’s about that tenacious couple and those who love them celebrating together. (And believe me, your efforts will be appreciated; millions of bonus points for pulling it off. Fun that this time, you can see them eat the cake!) Enjoy!
Con Ed lied - no power. We’re going with Plan C - candles and calm(that last part’s for me!)
@runnersmom Sorry to hear there is still no power…but it WILL be a wonderful and memorable wedding. Mazel tov.
It will be beautiful and memorable. Congrats.
Thanks to all for the good wishes! Yes, I’m happy, and it is a reminder that life goes on even in his pandemic. Sometimes I feel like we are held on a perpetual hold. Worse, I’m getting used to it.
@runnersmom , I’m thinking about you now. I think it will be a beautiful and memorable wedding. If I were up at my former home, I’d lend you my generator, but I think things will be just fine. Congratulations to all!
@lookingforward, Some enjoyable times watching wedding videos, and the ones we’ve watched are the old grainy type. One particular night we caught the brother of the bride, who is my friend’s rapscallion son steal the special bottle of champagne that was presented to the bride and groom , and pass around to his friends, guzzling it up. L. Took 15 years for him to get caught on film because it was a background thing. My friend was outraged. But, yes, it was all funny. Yes , some of us watch the entire footage.
My nephew’s wedding is not likely to happy and it’s already rescheduled from April. Early October in CA does not look likely for a big wedding. Sadly, both grandmothers have declined so much in health in this short time, that it’s unlikely either of them could make the trip anyways. So any ceremony will be filmed since the majority of family won’t be attending.
It’s a whole different world now, and when we look at college , weddings, travel , it really drives that home.
@cptofthehouse , Congratulations again! My son, like your nephew, will also be married in October, in a very small ceremony. I took the advice of a friend, my sister, and a couple of people here and had a long talk with my son this week. H and I are the only family that could drive to the wedding, all others are a plane ride away. In an ideal , non Covid world, all family they want there would be able to be there. I asked if they would reconsider some type of livestreaming, at least to family. Son talked to fiancee and they will be looking into doing that! It was an emotional, productive phone call and I’m glad a couple of you suggested I talk to him.
I know there is some sentiment here about their bigger event in 2022 being just a party, but I will not be looking at it that way. It will be when I see my lovely FDIL being walked down the aisle by her father, I will get to dance with my son, and see them exchange vows again, this time in person- which is really not possible right now. These are just crazy times that are wreaking havoc with celebrations and travel. They really want a larger gathering of their family and friends when that is more possible and I support them in that. Plus, a lot of the guests will be their friends and they WILL enjoy a good party!
@runnersmom , Best wishes for a wonderful day today! Very excited for you and your family. We look forward to hearing all about the wedding!
@runnersmom - Good thoughts for tonight. It seems you’ve prepared for every eventuality, and have wonderful friends and neighbors willing to help. Mazel tov to the happy couple.
@runnersmom best wishes this evening. It will be a lovely wedding!!
@runnersmom Thinking of you and your family today. It will be a wedding to remember, and everyone will have their own story to tell! Mazel Tov!
@sevmom, how wonderful your son and FDIL will consider live streaming their day, and the 2022 wedding will be equally special.
Today’s the day! Can’t wait to hear the recap, @runnersmom !
Thank you @momoffour and thanks to those that suggested I talk to my son at least once about reconsidering live streaming the ceremony.
It is about t minus 8 hours to the wedding of @runnersmom 's son. We should all raise a glass to toast then! Have fun tonight, @runnersmom !
Thinking of you and yours @runnersmom Best wishes!
@sevmom So glad you spoke to your son about live-streaming…hopefully they will reconsider – even if they set it up so only both sets of parents can watch. Whatever happens, it is good that you told him what you were feeling and that he listened and is considering what you had to say. This is such a difficult time and there are no clear cut right or wrong answers. All best wishes.
I am envisioning all the wonderful things going on now as the sun sets. Such a magical blessing @runnersmom , to have your son marry at your home, by candlelight no less! All the best to you and yours! Congratulations!
So excited to hear the deets!
