2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 1)

We just got an email message from our good friends on their D’s Sept.12th wedding. The ceremony will still be held outdoors, but the inside dinner and dance will be scaled back to only include the wedding party and close family. They are offering dinners to go, along with a bottle of wine for those attending the ceremony. I thought that was a nice gesture.

That sounds like a nice gesture @toledo but I’m guessing most out of town people, in particular, will decline altogether. Are you local and could attend a ceremony and then just head home? The plan sounds like something that could work more for local people. Crazy times and we are all needing to roll with the punches!

Most guests would have a 2 hour drive to this resort, so it is hard to say how many may attend. Our drive is considerably longer, but we would use the trip to visit relatives. We need to decide if we can do it with minimum risks.

@toledo that is a really kind gesture on their part. Totally not necessary, totally sweet of them to make their guests who attend the ceremony feel valued.

Yes, no power and no news on when it will be restored. I am beside myself and don’t have a clue what plan C looks like.

Oh, @runnersmom, I am so sorry! Will send fervent vibes that the power comes back soon and the wedding can happen! It just never lets up, and I admire your fortitude and attitude through this chaos.

I have my fingers crossed for you @runnersmom!

DS and FDIL made the hard decision last week to postpone their October wedding. Their invitations were stamped and ready for the post office when they got word from the venue that they may have to reduce the guest list to 40 and there may not be dancing or a bar. Surprisingly they were able to secure a weekend in May that works with the vendors they are already in contract with and also allows for our very specific lodging needs.

@runnersmom My heart goes out to you. Fingers crossed that your power is restored quickly. If there is anything I can do let me know.

@runnersmom I am thinking about you and your family. Fingers crossed everything turns out great.

Hoping your power returns soon @runnersmom. Sending good vibes your way.

@runnersmom so very sorry to hear about this latest obstacle. Take a deep breath, your son WILL get married on Saturday and it WILL be lovely!! Fingers crossed your power returns soon and sending well wishes up the turnpike to you!!

Yup, the plan is to have a wedding on Saturday, one way or another. Caterer has power, our menu is all room temperature, I have many, many candles and battery powered fairy lights and solar camping lights. Once the ceremony is over I will use the LED lit lumenaria to light a walkway to the bathroom. As long as frogs don’t fall from the sky (nod to the Passover plagues), there will be a wedding.

@runnersmom AND the wedding will be lovely and memorable!
PS Kudos to your grace under pressure.

@runnersmom checking in to add my best wishes that things go beautifully for your family this weekend.

@runnersmom - hope the power is back and they get the trees off the roads and power lines!! Yikes!

Thanks everyone. I’m reached the “it will be what it will be” phase of wedding planning. H is at Home Depot now getting more batteries and twinkle lights which can be returned if Con Ed does their job. Just heard from Rental company and tent is being delivered tomorrow. MOB also texted to say they have no power either and are staying with friends - great more Covid vectors to worry about. But, see above. It will be what it will be

What time is the wedding, @runnersmom ?

Oh, ceremony is at 8:15 (have to wait until Shabbat is over). It will be dark or almost dark! Anyway, tent is up, my neighbor has a generator and kindly offered an extension cord connection to our yard so we can have lights in the tent. Otherwise we have many, many candles and battery operated lights. It will all be wonderful…

The kids have an amazing attitude and that’s what matters!

@runnersmom these kids will have a wedding that everyone will talk about for many many years to come!

Candlelight at nightfall sounds really beautiful!
