2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

Great picture. I like that dress!

Dog is like my daughter’s Milo. My two nieces had dog ‘included’ somewhat with their wedding (both with printed version).

Wedding minus 2 months today! It is getting so close! My son is excited but so busy with clinics he doesn’t have much time to think about it. Hopefully most things are done. We still have to get my grandson (my daughter’s son) fitted for the wedding and that is going to be a trick since he will be away with his father during the time that we need him fitted. We think we get him back one weekend during the time window. I hate the 42 day away thing for a 3 year old! I need shoes (options coming in 2 days) and to have my dress hemmed.

I can join in now, DD’17 was engaged a week ago! Probably looking at late spring 2024. Lots to figure out and I don’t really know what I’m doing but DD’19 is good at event planning so she’s ready to help. (Fully expect her to get a ring this summer too so possibly 2 weddings next year.)

S2 and DIL are getting into planning now. It will definitely be low-key. Had to convince them they need to actually send out invitations (at least via email) so they know how many to expect for the reception and the bus from Lviv to the winery. FDIL has narrowed the dress down to two options. Still don’t know if I’m making the veil! S wants to get a custom vyshyvanka and he still hasn’t contact the fabric artist he wants to do it. Told him that as a fabric artist, I know how long it will take to hand embroider it, so time to get moving! SIL is likely not making the trip – she’s pretty anxious about going over there (and not without cause).

S said there will be very few men at the wedding because guys between 18-60 can’t leave the country and may be subject to military service, and young guys in small towns are likely to get questioned about their status. (Heck, S2 gets asked on a regular basis, which is why he always carries his US passport). Sobering – I hadn’t even considered that might be a deterrent to attending.

My son and his wife that prompted this thread, part 1 had their 7th anniversary this weekend!

Not trying to jinx it (lol) but I imagine we might have another wedding in 2024 in the family. I noticed a post elsewhere today about “2024 Wedding Trends” - are these things you are seeing now or that are being incorporated into your 2023 or 2024 family weddings?
Disposable cameras
Champagne Towers (?)
Small wedding cakes
Short reception dress for bride

Any tips on shoe shopping for the bride for the wedding day? My D wears size 11 and has slightly wide feet.

My daughter in law wore shoes by Loeffler Randall last year, the Camellia style or something similar.

Thanks. That’s a cute shoe, although D’s 5’10" and may prefer the Dahlia with the 2-1/4" heel. But I was not familiar with that shoe brand so that’s very helpful. I like the block heel.

My daughter in law is also 5’10." It may have been the Dahlia she wore, but I think it was the Camellia. Good luck shoe shopping and best wishes to your daughter!

No help on shoes from me as D1 is getting married outdoors in a rustic setting and is going to wear short off white cowboy boots under her dress!

@Corinthian , I actually found some pictures of the shoes from the “getting ready” pictures. They are Loeffler Randall, and do not have a strap at all. They are mules or slides or whatever they’re called, with a pleated bow and very small heels. I do like them(not sure they have that exact style this year) but are kind of like the Camellia with a much smaller heel and no strap! I also do like the Daphne with a small heel.

I did not see any of those things at son’s recent wedding. But bride did have a lovely lace shawl-like train for the park ceremony. It detached for reception, leavinga lovely long gown for dancing.

Our youngest got a pair of sparkly Badgley Mischka (so?) with block heels to be comfy on her grassy venue. Was not considering this brand but a Nordstrom SA suggestion was very helpful. Have her go to Nordstrom! It was and is still an excellent shoe store.

The seamstress put a few buttons on the dress to bustle the medium-long train. It worked great!

No champagne towers.
No disposable cameras.
Yes to a small cake. The other desserts were made by the caterer and were inhaled!
Yes to sustainability. Only paper and bamboo for disposables. Glassware and dishes and cutlery were all reusable. Greenery was collected afterwards and also composted.

DD hasn’t gotten into real planning yet, but I know that she likes the idea of disposable cameras set out on the reception tables. And I believe she said she would not want to change dresses in order to get as much use out of the wedding dress as possible.

Not sure what an audio guestbook is exactly, but it might be nice. Last weekend DD was home to tell grandparents/relatives/church family in person so younger DD asked me to video the reactions since she couldn’t be there. I’m so happy I did, now we have those to keep, especially with the grandmas, and the adopted-church-grandpas that we won’t have with us someday.

I don’t really get the disposable camera thing these days
I get the idea of getting candid shots - but honestly, I would think between family and close friends you can secure those candid shots - no one seems shy about taking pics at a reception for instance - and have all the pics you’d ever want!

The only thing on that list my kids would probably opt for is the small(er) wedding cake. I think the sustainability just comes with the choice of venue (and is common around here).

I don’t think there will be photo booths or other entertainment. Pretty basic stuff of ceremony, dinner, cake. One is really into cupcakes so I think will have those.

Our kids created a Google photo album where their guests could upload photos taken with their own cameras and phones. They did not want to add more plastic to landfills.

Nephew and his bride had a instant photo camera with the individual pop in film with a sign in album. You have a picture of your group, paste it in (they had the corner sticking pieces for the photo) and write in your message. That kind of ‘enhanced’ a sign in book.

If one has a hired photographer, they take the pictures desired – plus many shared camera photos on Facebook.
