2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

Thanks. I just went and got a new card.

I’ve spent the day putting a hem into a bridesmaid dress for D#1 (not done yet). It is a lined dress with a chiffon over slip. This was after redoing the entire top 2 weeks ago which included having to take the stays out, take it in 1.5 inches on each side, and so the stays back in. Why? Because my daughter got a really good deal on this dress (only $25) but it is a size 10 and she’s a size 2, maybe a 4. I have no idea if it will fit as she arrives tomorrow for the wedding, on Tuesday (yes, Tuesday).

No more bridesmaid duties, please.

She is so lucky to have such a talented (and willing!) mom!

D1 found her wedding dress today! She looked so beautiful and I cried as did her future MIL. She tried on about 18 dresses at 2 different bridal shops and ended up with the first one she tried on. I’m so happy for her.

We just attended nephew’s wedding in nearby state (about 6 hours driving for us, but with DD1/kids it was with a full meal stop each way). The bride’s dress could not have been a better selection for her - she has very fair complexion, and it was a pale ivory that just blended in so well, and was just so attractive on her - she also has a wonderful figure.

It was outdoor wedding and indoor dinner. Good thing the weather held out as they would have only had a very crowded space indoor. Rain had been forecast, but the day of, it was only 5% chance at the time around the ceremony, and they only had a little very light rain later after everything was done. It was a wedding type venue place, and even had a honeymoon elevated cabin for them to overnight at (stairs up, and the decorative entryway to the stairs said “Onto Happily Ever After”. Bride’s family was terrific. 97 YO grandmother with lots of vim and vigor - a truly delightful person. A very nice event. They had a wonderful selection of 90’s and 2000’s music with a DJ after they cleared some of the tables in the center of the room where we had dined - up beat and happy music. The younger kids also had a great time with the dancing. Outdoor sparklers with us lined up next to the sidewalk on both sides as they went through, which was the finish to the evening.

My daughter went dress shopping with her friend and they went to this shop. My daughter said her friend found some great dresses that fit perfect for great prices. Looks like they have just a few locations. They went to the Sacramento store.

What a fabulous idea! Wish there had been that kind of option when I donated daughter’s dress (and mine someday).

@mom60 curious
what were the prices like. I LOVE the idea (and might have some things to donate)

Gift link isn’t working as a gift
IOW
I can’t open the article. To do so, I need to create a free account giving the WSJ all of my contact info.

That’s not what I call a gift link. That’s phishing for data.

I don’t know full price range but I do know the three her friend liked were $350-600.00. I think prices are based on what retail was originally. The added benefit for her friend was that two fit like a glove including length so she would have No alterations.

That’s wonderful to have the dresses fit so there are no alterations.

D1 is in between a size 0 and 2 so they have ordered a 2 for her so we expect there will be alterations when it arrives later this year. Her dress was just under her $2K budget and she was thrilled to find something that she really loved and that didn’t break the bank.

What a great place! They also have stores in Seattle, Tacoma, and Portland (OR).

Sorry, all I can do is post it as the WSJ says it’s a gift link.

@thumper1 I had no trouble opening the article. Maybe try a different browser?

Well
that’s odd
.this morning
it opened. Same device
same browser.

Great idea. Reminds me of the old Running of the Brides at Filenes in Boston.

I no sooner resigned from the bridesmaid dress altering business when I was asked by my daughter’s finance to hem the pants for a wedding he’s in starting next Wednesday. Yes, ‘starting’ because it is an Indian wedding so lasts for 4 days. I thought it was the Indian outfit that the groom had made for him (had to measure him for that and figured I’s screwed up the inseam measurement) but no, he had to buy a new black suit for one of the ceremonies.

It wasn’t that hard as the suit wasn’t lined. My daughter started making comments like didn’t I think the jacket needed to be more tailored under the arms? and I quickly said “OH NO, it’s perfect!”

We are well into ‘Wedding World’ here now. Both my kids are engaged, my nephew (same age as my kids) just got engaged, and it seems like every kid they know is planning a wedding (or having a baby). One daughter is a MOH in Sept 2024 and her finance’s brother is getting married the following weekend (he’s in that wedding). Just scheduling things is becoming hard.

I will not be doing alternations from all those weddings. I do have to make Christmas stockings for several joining my family.
