2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

Update: daughter asked me if I can be at the wedding hall by 10 am: “I am going to want you there before anyone else for a first look”

First look is special.

My older daughter did a Chinese tea ceremony the night before. It was an intimate ceremony of two families. A lot of happy tears.
D2 is going to do the same and she will be wearing the same Qipao as her sister.

Fiance’s brother got married in August. His parents had a first look with their son, as well as the bride with her parents. Fiance’s parents loved it and asked for it at DD’s wedding. DD also loves the idea of a first look with her dad. I will probably be with her all along getting ready but I think parent first looks is a great idea!

So my Israeli friends aren’t coming until 10/29 (here’s hoping!). Daughter and future s-i-l said they can accommodate 3 more–a couple and widow we know through them, living in Pittsburgh and NC, although my daughter, making table assignments, said she needs to know by Thursday. I myself am feeling just a little overwhelmed but in a good way!

Thinking of @HImom today. Hope your son’s wedding festivities are joyous and go as planned.

Thanks—rehearsal lunch went without a hitch, as did the welcome reception. The rehearsal lunch was a fabulous 9 courses plus dessert for 20 people (though there were 2 empty seats because my sister and her car were rear-ended and ended up having to visit auto body shop instead). We had folks package leftovers plus took all the other leftovers to their house (they’ll be hosting a day after brunch tomorrow at their place).

My brother loaned us his van so we could transport all the beverages that would never have fit in a smaller vehicle.

Everything is progressing nicely. We are having sone good conversations with my friend who flew in from LA and BIL from SF. We don’t have a schedule, only know we are supposed to be at venue @3:30 and we’re told last night to get S there by 2pm. Haha!

I took it as a good sign they went to auto body shop instead of ER or urgent care.

A little drama—the officiant is getting VERY forgetful and I have to help keep her focused. She gets stressed and asks the same Q multiple times. Fortunately it’s all ok and will get through this. This morning she called because she didn’t know why the coordinator was wanting her to get the final marriage license document.

I’m an officiant too and told her we will get everything properly finalized online. She isn’t registered online, so will have to do that on Monday (only open m-f).

This is a little bit of a funny story.

My niece was married by her uncle who is a judge. At the end of the ceremony, he forgot he had paperwork to fill out. Said that he hadn’t filled out paperwork in years, that’s what you have clerks for :joy:

I got a text from my daughter yesterday (adopted from China before automatic citizenship in 2018; became a citizen at a lovely ceremony for child adoptees and their families in March of 2001 at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan) that she and fiance needed more documentation for marriage license. I know I gave her the certificate of citizenship which we replaced when she was a freshman in college; she pretty much demanded it. Of course she couldn’t find it. So I scanned and emailed her Chinese birth certificate and adoption certificate with certified translation that I received before we came home on 2/11/98. Hope that’s enough!

So sorry this is coming up. Sounds stressful. What are the marriage license people saying they still need? Is there a passport, modified U.S. birth certificate?

Why wouldn’t her passport be sufficient.

You don’t need to be a citizen to get married, but maybe if she isn’t (I know she is) they require other documents to prove she’s in the US legally.

My daughter always slaps that passport down when people ask for documentation. Haven’t used the C of C since she got the first passport at age 3.
