I just gave the couple what they asked for!
Hope this gets resolved quickly. I have a niece adopted from Guatemala and she and her parents have traveled frequently internationally since she was very young (she is now over 18). I just assumed her current birth certificate and US passport would be sufficient for anything regarding something like a marriage license. So, maybe yours is a cautionary tale ?
I will keep this thread posted!
Oh, that is really lovely! What a sweet gift.
I may need to look for something like that. I am hoping/planning to make DDâs veil, possibly with tulle from my veil. She wants it to be a comb that attaches at the back of the head, and this morning a beautician at church told my mom we should get something like that to cover where the tulle is sewn onto the comb.
My tulle is white, and DDâs dress is champagne, so weâre also going to have to decide if we need to ditch mine in favor of an ivory tulle.
Second session of engagement pictures is starting now. I got to see some from the first round yesterday. Photographer is her cousin, so no issue doing a couple rounds. Today they wanted to get some that include her cat before heading out to a park.
Sâs wedding was last night and it was perfect. A small hitchâthe van we drove was locked into the parking lot (to deter homeless), so this morning, we had to retrieve it @6. Fortunately no ticket nor towing so all was well! H went back to sleep but Iâm wide awake.
D and I had the nice makeup lady at nearby Macyâs Clinique counter apply our makeup â very light and natural.
We all had a great time and it was so joyous to see the newlyweds so very happy and excited about starting their new lives together. They were both beaming all night! D gave a cute speech about how S has become more thoughtful, thanks to his beloved. Everyone looked great and had a nice time. The older folks left as the dancing started, as usual, haha, but the younger folks didnât miss them. The event started on time @4 and ended around 10ish.
The only casualty Iâm aware of for the evening is the 6 inexpensive sign in pens that disappeared but may be with my nephew who was at reception table.
When DD ordered her dress, she was able to purchase the extra tulle which had lace pattern in it/match to the dress. She indicated how long she wanted the veil, and the price was less than what a non-matching veil would have cost. The costs that these kind of add-ons can have! Her veil fabric was easy to have some hair combs attached and her hairdresser had everything looking terrific.
The headpiece I had for my wedding had yellowed. We did look at it in my wedding gown bag.
Thatâs cool! Her dress has a lot of pattern so I think sheâll want the veil plain. Mine looks pretty white yet. Iâm surprised at how well my veil and dress look, I just put them in a plastic tote in a store room. DD did try on my dress but of course wanted her own style.
Congratulations on what sounds like a very nice event! I hope some of the âoldsâ did take the chance to dance too!
Wonder what the % is these days of veil vs. no veil vs. no headpiece at all. D1 is leaning towards nothing at all on her head except the Bobby pins needed for the hairstyle she decides on, lol.
I have been on quite a few wedding dress shopping. Itâs amazing how a veil completes a dress.
D1 had a very long plain veil attached to a hair comb. D2 is going to borrow it.
D had a simple veil, longer than her very short train, clipped in her hair (which she wore down). She removed the veil for the reception. Lately, Iâve seen a lot of veils that are actually attached to the back of the dress, kind of like a cape. These are often detachable.
Interesting - to me a veil can distract from the dress.
I will say D isnât really into the whole âlook like a fully equipped brideâ look. Itâs just not her thing. She has a beautiful dress and beautiful hair - she will do what makes herself feelâŠ.herself!
Both kids opted for no veil after considering it. Just a headpiece for the big kid. Little kid found veil sleeves on Etsy, and that was it for her!
My daughter asked me earlier this year if she could wear my veil. My wedding dress has been hanging in my closet in its original bag since I got married. I assumed my veil was in there and was saddened to see it wasnât. I still had the hair comb it attached to, but no veil.
The night before my flight to her wedding a few weeks ago, I was packing for my trip. I was rifling through my dresses looking for a sundress to bring. I noticed a plastic shopping bag from Loweâs hardware store hanging from a hanger amidst my dresses (how had I never noticed it all these years??). I opened the bag and there was my veil.
I brought it with me but my daughter was unsure if she wanted to wear it, thinking it might be longer than she liked. She said she would decide once she had her dress on. I was so hoping she would wear it! We had to make some alterations to it (hair piece attached to the comb was yellowed and outdated), but she decided to wear it.
It wasnât until she started getting photos done outside that I realized her dress had a slight ivory cast while my veil was white white. So in the end, she wore the one she bought since the color matched her dress. But I was delighted to have found it and happy she wanted to wear it until we realized it wasnât the right color. It is now stashed in the bag with my dress at home in case my younger daughter wants to use it.
I dipped white tulle in tea to get a color match
D wasnât going to wear a veil, but once I showed her my veil she changed her mind. There were some alterations - I believe it had to be shortened, but it looked great on her and really completed the dress.
