Summer Activities:
— I go to an alternative boarding school that offers classes year round. Students run most of the school and are often not allowed to be super active in any outside community. However, I am on the board at the local youth center, and before I came to this school I did upwards of 200 hours of community service as a TA for a martial arts class for children. At my school, I run the kitchen, which means I order all the food and manage the team of student cooks. I am also the academic advisor for 12 students.
Essays (rating 1-10, details): I edited and changed a bunch last minute. I think they really represented who I am, but I am not an excellent writer, and I fear that my passion for so many different things might’ve come across as scatterbrained. For my personal essay, I wrote about my struggles at home, single mom, depression and anxiety and what came with that, but also the changes I made in my life when I came to my current school. It was ok, but again, I’m not a great writer.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: 7/10, It seemed pretty good and she wrote really cool things about a short play I wrote about growing up in a railroad apartment with a depressed single mom, but something about it seemed a little weird. Idk
Teacher Rec #2: Didn’t read it, She gave me an A+ in one of her classes even though my school’s grading system only goes to A, but she also forgot that I was in two of her other classes, so who knows.
Counselor Rec: 8/10, She really likes me and we’ve met weekly for the past year and a half
Other:
Intended Major: Double major in computer science and theater
State (if domestic applicant): NY
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Private (I’m on a scholarship)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: <5,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): idk if this is a hook but I’m a child born via IVF with unidentified donor and my single mother has been unemployed for years
Reflection
Strengths: test scores, upward trend
Weaknesses: I’ve been to three schools and my first couple of years did not go well
Why you think you were accepted/rejected:
Not super hard to tell why I was rejected. I definitely have a story, but not the numbers
Don’t get too relaxed y’all! Questbridge regular decision opens tomorrow!
@hamlon opens tomorrow? Does that mean we can start completing material for QB RD?
@neonerudite Yup, the form is available now on your manage page.
Can you apply for QBRD if you aren’t a finalist? If so, can you apply both through QB and regularly
@catbug2 no you cannot. However, select schools will still let you use your QB app to apply if you’re not a finalist.
@catbug2 You’d be applying as a non-finalist.

Thank you! Also, is there any way to change my QB app before I apply regular decision?
@catbug2 no.
@mxrxsxa you absolutely cannot write an essay that is whiny or poor me. People reading your essay wants to see how you rise above your adversity. Tell your story that shows your personality, and most importantly, that you have intellectual curiosity and empathy. My daughter got into Stanford last year and the admission officer write that her essay was very moving. With your stats you just need to work on your essays. Strategize with someone on what story you want to tell that will stand out amongst the thousands of applicants. Good luck!
Match day is tomorrow!!!
Is anyone else excited that match results come out tomorrow? This thread has been dead lately.
nervous~~
I am so incredibly anxious
@GreekLethe @JohnyFromChicago Do you know at what time the results come out?
@skuba99 I dont even want to think about it
@greekguy1273 they came out at around 11:30 or 12:30 PST last year, but it’ll probably be anywhere from 11-5 PST
I’m nervous, anxious, and a bit in disbelief, but I am very excited for tomorrow :))
