@Tinijocaro Thank you! Congrats to your son as well!
@Tinijocaro Ah that’s too bad, I haven’t even had the chance to read the letter thanks to being in an early college program and it being sent to my home. Parents just let me know I received it. I am going in as a computer engineer major but I haven’t decided if I am going to stick to engineering as I have a lot of different interests. Also the five years attached to the incentive make me want to avoid that incentive, especially if I can go for other private scholarships.
@grimmjj Sounds like a good plan to keep options open, my son is doing the same. If one of your interests is music, there is a ton that you can be involved in at UB. My older son is a senior on a Presidential scholarship and has been very involved in many music ensembles and lessons.
Here’s a post from a prior year where someone spoke to UB about stacking merit + STEM incentive. The answer was yes, they are stackable.

@stencils Thanks for that link-good info!
Does anyone know UB sends letters out to people who do not receive the pres. scholarship?
DD received one as well. She received a letter on Friday.
@Bocrop Congrats to your daughter! What’s her major?
Nursing
Does anyone know how the living situation works? Current presidential scholars at the interview mentioned everyone lives together…is that all randomly assigned?
My older son is a senior on the Presidential Scholarship. Honors housing is available (governor’s) although I don’t think you have to live there and it isn’t just for pres. scholars. There is not a special dorm for pres. scholars. Turns out they put my son in the honors dorm with a non-honors student as a roommate. I know he doesn’t represent even close to most non-onors students but he spent his days in the room smoking weed, not going to class. If you really want honors, double check that your roommate is also honors if that matters to you.
So everyone knows, they are strict on maintaining a 3.5 GPA. Son had flu and mono one semester and his gpa dropped a little below and he received a letter that his scholarship was gone. He had to submit dr’s note explaining how sick he was-luckily he had seen the campus doctor so he had seen him firsthand. They gave him back the scholarship.
