2018 - 2019 USC Transfer [Viterbi]

@jnunez32 My S started at USC in Calc III as a freshman so if you are ready for that, you will get in it. If you don’t need or want to take math past Calc II, you won’t take it if you test out, so not a cash grab, right?

@cadreamin well he was a freshman and most high schools only go up to calc anyways. Even if it’s AP classes there’s no way to know if it’s college level difficulty (a good AP score should have determined his placement instead of a test) so a placement test seems standard for all high schoolers regardless of math background. However we are transfer students as in we are already in college albeit junior college or whatnot

@CADREAMIN I mean I’ve definitely already forgotten some stuff from Calc 2 last semester. It just seems like it’s unnecessary to make us take a test if we’ve already taken a course that USC considers to be equivalent…

Math at USC has a reputation for being incredibly difficult - it makes students hate math. I had a friend that withdrew from linear algebra twice. They really just want to make sure you’re prepared. I know that I found math prior to USC quite manageable because of all the extra credit opportunities offered; it made it easier to get a good grade if you fell behind. That doesn’t happen at USC very often, lol. Extra credit is a rare thing and many a syllabi warn you not to ask about it.

honestly, i just hope i get in.

Has anyone heard back? Someone said Viterbi decisions come out from the 15th to 22nd. Also, since I haven’t received an SGR is that a bad thing (sophomore w 3.9)

@FutureGenius69 Basically nothing has been heard from Viterbi at this point (except maybe 1 or 2 that might be fake). I’m a TTP and haven’t heard anything so I don’t think anyone should be worried at this point.

Most likely going to be last week of may

I want to report some classes that I’ll be taking over the summer. Do you guys even think I should at this point (not GEs) and if so, how should I inform SC?

A Viterbi applicant said that they had a package coming from USC on the other thread, anyone else?

I know it’s late to join, but I received my Viterbi acceptance yesterday as a Fall 2018 Computer Science transfer student. Waiting to hear from 1 other school before accepting the offer!

I’m a transfer student from Louisiana with a lot of maths college credit.

@ReesesPieces256 What maths do you have? Just to compare. Congrats by the way!

@ReesesPieces256 Congrats! Could you please post your stats?

Thank you!

I have a feeling I’m not getting in because of my calc grades, if not this year, then next year when i don’t have to take any math classes

YALL I GOT IN FOR CS! (ill post my stats soon)

@hopefultiffany

CONGRATS!!

I’m a little worried I won’t get in because I’ve only gone up to Calc III for math and Chem I + Physics I and II for science, a lot of you guys seem to have gone really deep in math

Damn this wait is really killing me rn … still no change on the portal, applicant for Viterbi CS …

@Anco17 Up to or through? If you’re a entering sophomore applicant the only thing they want is for you to have completed Calc 2 and “a recommended lab science” by the end of spring semester

It’s also possible the people you’re tagging are on a trimester/quarter system
