Thx for the updates, Truth. On a side note, it seems that Assistant Dir. of Admissions Mitch Salm is becoming quite the young man about town in social media circles.

I don’t trust UChicago. Seriously, who are all these kids wanting to set themselves up for unnecessarily grueling academics and a dull social for 4 years?

UChicago is a different place, but I think the hype, such as it is, is justified. Many UChicago students wouldn’t know a Blue Devil from a Demon Deacon, but after being there several times and meeting with many of the students, I’m convinced that UChicago students truly and authentically derive pleasure, enjoyment, and satisfaction from their academic and EC pursuits at the school. Plus its a really nice place, physically. It will surprise you.

To be honest, I was more the type that enjoyed the heady, but reflected, excitement of major sports and the related publicity and media attention. It helps me to have a son at the school to know and respect the fact that he is extremely satisfied with what he is doing. I admire the fact that he derives his excitement in a different, but no less valid way.

Not to mention, JWest, some of us genuinely enjoy studying and competitive academics. Social life is what you make of it; if you want to have fun and make friends, you do. And while there may be more quieter people at UChicago, like any college it’s diverse. Not everyone there is boring. In fact, I imagine many of them are quite fun!
