UCF was formerly awarding their NMF Scholarship package. Now it is awarding the State Of Florida Benacquisto scholarship.
@College2Bound This is the reply I got from Luke:
Accelerated credit does count towards your degree program. The condition of the merit scholarship outlines, “This program will provide funds for 100 percent of the number of credit hours required to complete a baccalaureate degree program, or until completion of a baccalaureate degree program, whichever comes first.” A lot of that depends on each individual student’s major and the scholarship doesn’t necessarily terminate exactly at 120 credit hours. Those are all things that Financial Aid, Honors Advising, and myself will assist you with when you get closer to graduating in your senior year.
So that wasn’t a very clear response, but, from the wording of the quotation on the policy, I believe the scholarship will cover everything until you complete your degree. If you come in with a bunch of elective credit, it shouldn’t affect your credit limit since not all of it will be relavent in the completion of the degree. I could be wrong, but I’m not too worried. Hope that was helpful!
^^^ This is one of the big benefits of the UT Dallas National Merit Scholarship, it is for 8 semesters not a specific number of credits so if you come in with a large amount of AP and DE credits it’s possible to get your BS and masters covered 100% by the scholarship. You just need to be careful not to use the scholarship for summers because that will count as one of the 8 semesters even though you can’t take as many credits during the summer as a full semester.
DS was able to cover all of his gen ed/core requirements with his DE and AP credits. He just got his tentative 4 year plan approved from his advisor and he will be able to complete all the requirements for the honors program, a BS in comp sci, a minor in Chinese and a masters in Comp Sci all covered by UTD’s full ride NM scholarship.
@threescoutsmom - Wow, that’s wonderful. I’m so happy for him.
^ And a big benefit of Alabama’s 10 semesters of coverage…
When does the list of NMS winners come out - ie. the ones who won the $2500 award? I thought I read somewhere that it is on May 1st, but havent seen anything yet.
it comes out in late march.
My son got it, the $2500 Scholar Notification back in March.
FYI. College Sponsored scholarship showed up in my son’s NMSC portal yesterday with an acceptance deadline of May 15.
Same here. S had a small scholarship show up related to his acceptance at UNM. He accepted, and this is what takes him from Finalist to Scholar.
Us too. My D just accepted her $1K award from USC, which I will need to be renewed each year. I guess that’s the end of the National Merit road for us. It’s been a crazy year and a half since she took the PSAT. The HS class of 2019 already has their NMF worry thread going, I’m so glad to be out of that phase.
@g8torlaw and @kcheves Same here for my daughter attending USC. Thanks for the heads-up. Have not received letter in mail yet but could view in NMSC portal and accept award. Anyone know if NMSC sends letter each year with reminder to renew?
Is this the same portal where we checked their app status & chose their first-choice college? osa.nationalmerit.org? If so, for my D, it still looks the same, like application status is pending. I feel like I should be checking a different portal…
@GertrudeMcFuzz It is the same website. My scholarship for UCF showed up yesterday as well!
No, it’s the same portal. Make sure your D is logged in. It’s in fairly small print toward bottom of first “main menu” page you go to after logging in. I think it’s labeled " 4" – at least that what it’s under now after award was accepted.
OK, thanks! Does it just show up on the main page?
@GertrudeMcFuzz Yes, on main menu page.
when did you all put your college choice in?My son only decided on UMD 10 days back and we updated the college choice. Nothing yet for us even though UMD is a college sponsor.Anybody else in this situation?
My D listed USC as first choice on March 20. Scholarship showed up in USC portal within a few weeks. I think NMSC does updates in batches.
D18 now has the $1K/year NMF scholarship/stipend showing on her nationalmerit.org page. Is this in addition to the NMF scholarship that she already has at Bama?
