2018 Stanford Transfer Thread

I spoke with a Stanford counselor and they said that decisions are coming out starting from today. I have not received mine yet. Does this mean that I will receive in in the next few days to come? Congratulations to those who received acceptances!!

Yes…awaiting for further information to come via mail…

@s1c2r3e4e5n6 Yes I have not received any portal information yet either. Awaiting…

@SmartJarhead what didn’t you like about Cal? It may help me in my decision making process. I’m not from LA but I’ve lived here since 2010 and consider it my adopted home now.

I’m not sure if I should go where my major is stronger (UCLA Comm with minor in TV FILM digital media), or Cal (media studies) where the school has more legacy and global network after graduation.

@goodBrujo9 I liked the campus, I hated the area around it. Furthermore, some of it (dorms and dining) are located in the surrounding town, not on campus. I was there with the veterans group and had a chance to ask the current students questions. They described classes (even upper division) ranging from 150-400 people, and that maintaining a high GPA is difficult. My goal is law school so I need to get to know my professors for letters of rec, and keep my GPA up. The surrounding area and housing difficulties were just another set issues I didn’t want to deal with. Overall, although I think Cal would be more prestigious in the U.S. and World Wide for Political Science, I don’t think it would be the best place to advance my career goals. I hope you get into USC as that would be perfect for your major, but I’m sure UCLA would be good as it would give you great access to the studios in the area

Got rejected!!! I also got rejected by Columbia. Still waiting for Yale’s, Penn’s and USC’s decisions, but I think I will attend the LSE in London next year :slight_smile: I did a reaction video, I will upload it when I will get all of my decisions ^^

I was waitlisted today by Stanford. I saw in a previous year that they admitted 34 transfers and 31 enrolled. So there might be a shot. My letter said if I wanted the waitlist I would not know anything until June 5th. I already got into UIUC but Stanford has been a goal of mine for a very long time. Very very long. I was allowed to add 500 characters to update them on what I have been doing and I did.

I know it is unlikely, but anyone have any thoughts? I wonder how many get waitlisted as transfers.

good luck to you!

Mjr2013, thank you sooooooo much for your reply. I do feel honored to have made the wait list. Hopefully I get a spot. I mean it when I say I have been wanting Stanford for a very long time. It is so strange to be denied by everywhere else, but then… wait listed by your number 1! (I did get into UIUC though…long stroy as to why I am not so thrilled with it. But still grateful. ) And if I do not get it, I know I will still be successful in life. Here is the 500 characters I added to my waitlist sheet. (Accomplishments sent applying) If you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them.

Maintained a 4.0 GPA.

Record profits this quarter at Goldies Pizza again.

Waitlisted by Stanford!

@Biggainz Congratulations on your acceptance! I am very happy for you. I know there were very few admitted. You should be very proud. Are you going to stay on campus? What’s your major? How is your aid package?

I am still waiting on the aid package. I have to submit a few more documents. Staying on campus depends on if they will pay for it. If i can stay on campus and not have to use my GI Bill and have them pay for it, I will. My major is ChemE. @jasonspyres i do feel extremely lucky and confused on why i was accepted lol.

@Biggainz , being in the service likely helped. Thank you for your service. Did you get in anywhere else? What area of the states are you from? Age?
I am 36, in Illinois

Just got rejected by Yale too!
I’m 19 by the way :slight_smile: I feel like they are looking for very specific/original students, like @jasonspyres (I thought you were younger ahah!) :slight_smile:

I started a waitlist thread, if anyone interested. I’m also waitlisted.

@Amelie24 thank you for calling me a very original student. I take it you read one of the links I posted?

thank you for the original student comment I posted. Did you read one of the links I posted that made you come to that conclusion?

Congratulations to those who received their mail today. I am eager to receive mine. Does anyone know Stanford’s waitlist policies/statistics?

@jasonspyres Hey ! When I said original student, I didn’t mean to say something mean, I’m sorry if it was not the appropriate word (English is not my mother tongue, I’m an international student :slight_smile: ). I just wanted to say that your profile is impressive and inspirational, but less common than a 19-year-old student like me for example (for undergraduate application) :slight_smile: I’m sorry if you were offended! And congratulations !

@Biggainz
congrats !!! can you share your application with me?

@Amelie24
I did not take offense to your comment at all. DO Not worry about that. And your english comes across very well. I am glad to see how well it is. My second language is spanish, ahhh,si. Yo puedo hablar espanol tambien! so I have a lot of respect for how difficult another language can be
