@StipendAwarded The problem for most of us here is that we haven’t transferred from GMU and have a list of what classes do and don’t transfer for credit or as USC equivalents. You will likely have to present class materials and syllabi for classes that USC will flag to be looked at in order to transfer the credits from those classes.
For others who are interested in seeing what classes you should take and what will transfer, here are some resources:
USC Articulation agreements: https://camel2.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic.aspx
(This will show you a complete guide to what classes will transfer and possibly count as USC equivalents. It almost exclusively has agreements for other schools in California)
USC Transfer Planning Guide: https://camel2.usc.edu/tpg/SelctPgAgrmnt.aspx
(This will show you a guide to what classes you can take at your school that will count towards the major you wish to apply for at USC. This includes most California community colleges, UCs, Cal States, and a few out of state universities.)
I am confused on the common application but maybe I am just completely overlooking it…I don’t seem to find a main common application essay like there was when I applied in high school. I only see USC’s questions but no common application essay prompt…is this right? thanks!
Hi! I am a sophomore transfer and part of the ttp program! Coming into college I have 48 units, and by the end of the year I will have 90 quarter units will USC take all of them?
Hello everyone! I had a question about fulfilling the WRIT 130 requirement before transferring in as a sophomore. Currently studying at UCR and at the moment, I am signed up for 15 winter quarter units. I need 1 more english class to fulfill WRIT 130, and when I used this link to check which classes fulfill requirements, it looks as if either ENGL 001B or ENGL 001C (here at UCR) fulfill the writing requirement, if I read the information in the link correctly. I am waitlisted for ENGL 001B, and I was thinking if I should just push it back until the spring quarter to ease my workload.
Any thoughts as to whether this is a good idea? I’m kind of worried about potentially not having ENGL 001C completed before the end of the school year?
It may be very important because GPA is very crucial to USC. You should aim for at least a 3.7+ GPA. If the writing class is going to drag your GPA down, it might be best to defer the class until Spring quarter. Also your Winter quarter grades may determine whether you receive a decision early or USC may wait for your Spring quarter grades to make a final decision, which can drag the decision process into early summer. Last year, S took both writing classes at another UC, got an A and A- in the Fall and Winter quarters (only one of 2 A-'s he received after taking 10 courses in his freshman year, 20 units in the Winter quarter). He received his decision shortly after the Winter grades were reported. His friend from the same UC had similar grades and similar results also was admitted shortly after Winter grades were submitted. Hope this helps.
One note: S also has to work harder at USC and is getting similar grades as previously as a UC freshman. He loves the LA area and the friends and international friends he is making.
Applying to Marshall.
Current college: UCSD

EC’s: Student Council, Undergraduate Investment Society, Undergraduate Business Network
LOR’s: 1 writing TA, 1 Econ professor
@norcal57 I would have to agree with @UCBUSCalum and advise you to take the WRIT 130 equivalent in the Spring. I did it that way because I wasn’t able to get a seat in the class for the Fall Semester at Riverside City College and I did get a Spring Grades Request from USC. But I feel like if you can apply with a higher GPA and keep most of your grades in the Spring high, then you would have a better shot at getting admitted.
@FilmAve it’s cool, don’t worry! I know that this sounds weird, but is there any possible way that you can message me? I have a question about the writing sample.
Combining the two recommendations on the default transfer application on the Common App and the three recommendations from Slideroom, I would need five total recommendations. Could I reuse one from Slideroom for one on the Common App? Would being able to get recommendations from five distinct people look better?
Also, should I get rejected by USC this time around, would it not be harmful to my future chances if I transferred out of Mason to a different university?
Got in last year as a Fall admit for Computer Science and BA (i switched to just CS). If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me, I’ll chime in on things I know from my experience when I’m free.
@Twenmi Do you know how difficult it is to switch majors that are in the same department? Is it really as easy as people make it out to be since it’s the same dapartment?
@GotYa55 It seems pretty easy to switch within the same department. I didn’t really look too much into it but when I called and asked if I could switch from CSBA to CS they told me since I’m in Viterbi already I could switch to anything in Viterbi. They switched me no questions asked.
@joeyfreshwater Do you know if sophomore transfers are at a disadvantage in comparison to junior transfers? Does USC prioritize juniors over sophomores for spots?
