I got into the school after being waitlisted, but I got admitted in psychology. I’m still waiting for my appeal to come back though, because I want to go in biomed
Son notified Friday as well that he moved off the waitlist. The UT admissions process is frustrating and being offered waitlist status made him really rethink his options … will enter University of Southern California this fall … as it turns out, UT really didn’t matter.
Oh goodness… I was lurking through the UT threads, and I’m really surprised that OP’s son didn’t get into ChemE with those stats! I got in with lower stats besides rank as an OOS student. It seems like rank is super important in the admissions process. Future longhorns take note!

Rank is so important for the small and competitive majors because everyone applying has great stats and a lower rank is what pulls the Academic Index lower than the other applicants.
When he applied he was a National Merit Semi-Finalist, so the Finalist award probably did not count.
It was a surprise that they only considered first choice major this year. His second choice was in CNS and his Academic Index was almost a 3.95 for a major there (even with the lower rank). However CNS did not even get his application. Maybe they only consider second choice in the same school- like both in Cockrell or second choice only for auto admits.
I hope this thread helps future Longhorns and is the reason I posted.

Son was offered a position off the waitlist - does selecting the offer/major require the enrollment deposit (are you committed to attending UT) or do you still have till May 1st to enroll? Is housing at this point still available? Also how hard would it be to take classes outside of the College of Liberal arts (say math ?) And how hard is it to transfer from say Liberal Arts to College of Science?
Congratulations Marfalights. I don’t think anyone has to pay the deposit til May 1. Can I ask when UT contacted your son about clearing waitlist? Was it today? Thank you.
Thanks @WrigleyMom my son received an email today - he isn’t sure if he will accept it because the majors available are limited the only one he may be interested in is Econ in the Liberal Arts College - plus I think he has moved on with his college choice after getting over the initial disappointment from the rejection with UT. We shall see

@Marfalights. Can you please share the timeframe your S was given for selecting a college/major? The first group that was offered had until 11:59 on Monday, 3/30. Sounds like your S was in the second wave? Thank you again!
@WrigleyMom selecting the major opened up today and I think he had till April 6th (if I recall correctly).
