Could someone please explain how housing signup works for freshman year? I’ve found a lot of contradictory information and can’t find a definitive answer.
Housing - and how to do it at NU - has really evolved over time, so you bring up a good question. My recommendation is to wait for the Official NU email about it, or contact NU for the latest procedure, and what worked for my son 4 years ago may not be valid today. If you do contact NU, please post back here, as I am sure others will have the same question(s).
Alright, thanks. I’ll make sure to post here when the update the webpage.
As of last year, you will receive an email about applying to res colleges (after RD comes out). If you apply to one and get in, that is where you will live and then you can choose your room. If you do general housing, you’ll receive a priority number and its literally just a lottery. During your allotted time, you’ll view a list of every available room and choose one (unless you chose a roommate in advance with a higher priority number, then they’ll pull you into their room).
You can go on the Facebook page and try to find a roommate if you want. You will not select housing until the spring.
@fwet7295orhefd If we didn’t choose a roommate in advance and instead picked a room through the lottery is your roommate the person who also chooses that room?
yup, it would be another person who goes in randomly
