*** 2021-2022 Medical School Applicants and Their Parents ***

This thread is for the current year MD, DO and other applicants and their parents to discuss various schools, application timelines, processes, and seek support as needed. Past threads are listed so people can review some of the questions already asked and answered.

@texaspg i think it would be helpful if you could put a brief explanation of what all this is.

Adding a post to make it easier for me to follow. Best wishes to all applying!

Updated with some background. Hopefully that is enough.

My child submitted applications last week. Following this thread!

I was wondering if this is the first year no one from CC is involved.

Good luck!

Team CC rooting for y’all! My guy is “done” now and on the “other side,” but I still enjoy being a cheerleader.

I’ve really struggled with the new forum format, but I’ll be here reading and cheering along now that mine is done applying. Good luck to all the applicants.

please post questions useful to this year applicants in this thread and not older threads.

Surprising so little activity here this year. The number of applicants nationwide has risen quite a bit last year and apparently has gone up even more this year.

Have been following the application threads for some time and silently cheering and celebrating all the news from past cycles. Will be following this cycle as well. My daughter’s plans seem to be more concrete now as she has her MCAT score (she’s the class of 2023 and will apply next year in 2022). I think her challenge will be putting together a good list of schools and showing interest as I fear there may be yield protection for many (Her GPA is 4.0/4.0, MCAT is 99%-tile, 1000+ research, 500+ clinical, etc). We’re NY so I’m hoping the NY schools will give her application a serious consideration. Any advice would be greatly appreciated by this experienced group of parents.

I don’t have much advice, but her application seems really strong, so best wishes to her!

I guess if I have any advice, make sure she has some “fun” stuff on there too. It seems med schools like to know students are real people who are fun to be around and not purely academic. My guy’s class got together for a lot of activities over the years - anything from Trivia Nights to hikes to trips to (nearby) Niagara Falls and more. They had a bit of fun together - and learned to be doctors.

@Creekland Thank you so much. I’ll pass along that she should make room to include the fun stuff she’s involved in, like her a capella group and orchestra, and intramural sports. Gosh, college has been so fun for her, great to hear that medical school can be similar.

Good luck to your daughter. Her stats sound amazing! As long as she puts ample time and effort into her application, she will do good!

Good luck to you as well! Thank you!

Congrats! It must feel gratifying to be on the other side after all that hard work!

How come there is not much activity this year. I assume some people might have got acceptances by this time. Also, can anyone shed some light whether they are calling for interviews in-person or virtual this year, too.

As far as I know, most interviews this year have been online. I have been tracking threads related to Texas schools mostly and some have asked students to come for campus visits after the interviews but not as a requirement.

There is one medicine engineering program at A&M based on Houston called ENMED and this is the only program that I am aware of conducting interviews in person in all of Texas.

Every school in Texas has offered admissions already but to eliminate multi admissions and admit more, they will do a match in March where everyone with multiadmissions has to settle on a single school and those with no admissions can probably get into a school based on their own rankings of schools where they interviewed. they can continue to be on waitlist of a higher ranked school on their ranking list.
