2021 Fall Stanford Transfer Thread

i actually haven’t thought too much about it like this - i would expect more people would apply but i also find the logic that less people could’ve applied cus of covid.
do yall think they will reduce the number of acceptances for this cycle cus they would have had more people defer their admissions from last year to this hoping covid would subside?

The number of admits remains the same unless they decided to change it regardless of the current circumstances; it’s unlikely they’ll accept fewer than the standard 25-ish students just because some students deferred last year. For example, they received more freshman applications this year AND have a whole lot of students returning but wouldn’t accept fewer than their standard number of students that they admit each year, would they? If Stanford has traditionally accepted 2,100-ish freshmen each year, they will again this year regardless of how many students deferred last year. (The acceptance rate goes down just because of the increased number of “applicants.”) It would probably mean less hope for waitlisted students, if it really means anything, because there’s probably no need to “fill in” for those who are going elsewhere since they already have students returning from their gap year. It most likely won’t have any impact on the number of students that they accept unless they were looking to accept more or less, COVID or no COVID. I’d personally be surprised if they accepted fewer just because of the people who deferred last year. Stanford has actively sought to increase the size of their transfer community; it’s been their ambition and a work in progress for years. If they decide to accept either more students or fewer students, it would be because they want to regardless of the deferrals. I’d probably weigh in on the standard number again this year, however–but not fewer. Just chipping in my two cents!

that’s interesting insight. thank you!
i was unaware of the fact that stanford was trying to increase its transfer pool. im trying not to think too much about the application too much, i don’t want to get stuck in a cycle of wishful thinking haha

For sure! I’m kinda surprised by how fast time seems to pass by, though. (It seems to go by faster since I’ve been stuck at home for a year now.) We’re already nearing the end of all this anxiety, haha. Best of luck to you!

Hi all! Does anyone know when approximately they will start sending out the offers or rejections to transfer students? I thought it was sometime in early April, but now I am realizing that is just for the first year students. Is there much of a time difference between when the freshmen hear and when we will hear?

Transfer decisions are released by May 15. You can probably expect in the first or second week in May - just like the Ivys.

This thread seems to be barely active compared to last year’s thread. Hello? Is there anybody out there?..

So im not the only one that had 2 materials missing despite having them submitted a while back. Do you think the late materials will reflect negatively on the application?

That would make no sense for Stanford to hold it against you with the pandemic going on, at miminimum.
